Do you think teams are going to be willing to give him a long term deal worth signing (not a bargin basement deal) or do you think he is gonna be looking at alot of 1 year, 2 year deal offers.

With his inconsistencies in his career, Im very hesitant to give him a long term deal. If thats what he wants (all players should), I would much rather get him on a 1 year prove it deal to show he string together back to back good seasons.

I ask because Im wondering what the odds are we can get him on a 3 or 4 year team friendly deal. Would be nice, but there are always teams willing to gamble on FAs

Easy to find a SAM LB.. sign Mcclain.. Play Carter at the Will.. Let Hitchens backup both positions and find yourself a SAM in the draft or for the cheap in FA

Carter is a horrible WILL. Lee is going to play Will and honestly I would rather play Hitchens at Will the Carter.

Carter is a down hill player. He can make plays and us his athleticism when they play is in front of him, but he cant play sideline to side line

I wouldn't give him big money but I don't think any other team will either. The way I could see him leave would be similar to Burnett leaving for a fresh start where the money is the same. He's from North Carolina so the Panthers could have a shot if they are interested.

The big difference there is that Burnett never got a starting gig here, and at the time wasnt unless he left. Carter on the other hand will almost certainly be a starter in 2015 if he returns

I can see a team paying him big. He's young and has a lot of upside. He would have been a 1st round pick if not for injuries, and he's already looked very good in two different positions (3-4 ILB and 4-3 SLB). Teams will pay him. I'd love to keep him, but McClain is the person we have to do whatever it takes to keep. I honestly think he could be better than Lee, and I trust his health much more. He's single-handedly inspired this defense. I'd love to have Carter, McClain and Lee, but we're stuck with Lee and we need to keep McClain. If Carter can come at a decent price, you better keep him. If not, we'll make due with Hitchens or Durant.

Yeah, but with all the problems he's had here he might want out.

I'd rather resign Durant than carter just my opinion .

I wouldn't mind keeping him as a depth guy but I like Carter's play on the strong side this year better than what Durant did there last year. Durant's value seems to be playing those other spots but that would be behind Lee and McClain ideally. Hitchens looks like he can do that also.

Linebackers next season will be Lee, Mcclain, if we sign Durant/ Hitchens

Him and Shazier would be nasty inside in Pittsburgh. Both athletic freaks and compliment each other perfectly. Carter with great speed attacking downhill and Shazier cleaning up sideline to sideline

I would really like to see Carter, McClain, Lee when Carter decides to play well. That could be exceptional.

I dont think its a case of him deciding to play well, he is just not good at certain things. Last year when he had to play more with his eyes he looked timid and scared. If he has a simple assignment he is high aggressive.

Pitt's other LB is already a Carter type freak that's acually more proven in the league. But yeh we pay McClain and Lee. You can't pay 3 of these guys in a 4-3 and the sam is the most dispensable

I think some may undervalue Carter's talent. Can see someone giving him a bigger pay day than we are willing to give.

Just like Durant and Hitchens said on the radio when asked who the most talented player on the team is...

"Dez or Bruce"

"I've never seen someone with that combination of speed, size and power"-- Justin Durant on Carter. (Paraphrasing).

Before we get rid of Carter, Murray, and anyone else, can we keep this team together for a year or two and draft some D-linemen. Carter is young and so is Murray. I would like to keep McClain, Murray, and Carter. Not sure how but make it work. Hell I would cut Claiborn and Hayden first. We have to find a way to keep these guys. If Kaepernick and Brady can take contracts that are team friendly to help keep others, surely someone our team can. I know this isn't gonna go over well but I would cut Witten to keep Cater, Murray, and McClain.

The one thing that may bring his price down is his learning deficiency of a scheme.
