ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Washington Commanders quarterback Mark Brunell has a small fracture in his left index finger and is expected to miss two to three weeks of offseason workouts.

Brunell was hurt during a workout earlier this week, but the team did not announce the injury until Friday. Because Brunell is left-handed, he will have to sit out most of the remaining spring practices, although he might return in time for the June 16-18 minicamp.
The 35-year-old Brunell is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in late July. Brunell is coming off one of his best seasons. He threw for 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions to help lead the Commanders to their first playoff appearance since 1999.

That better be the biggest injury we have to worry about.

I dont look into this injury that much, but I just hope this is the biggest of his health issues.

I'm not wishing the guy injured or anything, but I can't see how brunell will make it through the whole season. He's ancient. And injury prone. Its not even training camp and he's already broken a bone.

If they put JC in there, the skins are DONE. He is so overrated its not even funny. I can't believe they picked him in the first round. That kid comes out this year and he coulda been had in the 3rd. He had Ronnie Brown and cadillac williams in college to help him out. He won't have that luxury in the NFL.

It was a freak accident hitting a helmet on a throw follow through. Could have happened to anyone.

He won't have that luxury, especially with the Washington Commanders. He'll have to carry that team, if anything. A world champion weight lifter couldn't lift that team to win the Super Bowl. :)

On another note, this injury shouldn't mean anything for his regular season play. I still expect him to get injured later in the year. (don't get me wrong, I don't want him to get injured)

I hate to hear of any injuries, but this is minimal and will give Campbell and the others a chance to get that many more reps and opportunities. For that I am excited.

Right. It actually happens quite often. Hurts like heck but heals fairly fast.

Wow, it was pretty obvious that Brunnell would have injury problems this year and last year was a fluke. Who'd have thunk it would start happening before he even got to training camp :)

The Cardinals offense and passing attack was more highly ranked then the Skins or Cowboys, and that's without a rushing game and a horrible offensive line.

Sure the team was good, but not because of Warner. Josh McCown had more yards and more TDs per start than Warner despite facing tougher pass defenses.

At any rate, if Brunell takes as long as Warner did to recover from the injury (which is highly unlikely, but as long as you're already going along with the comparison ...), he'll be 37 or 38 by the time he's ready to play again.

McCown lost the starting job to Warner and is now in Detroit.

Warners numbers: 242 375 64.5 2713 7.2 11 9
McCowns numbers: 163 270 60.4 1836 6.8 9 11

With regard to the injuries 2 major differences...

1. Thumb vs index finger...thumb is obviously paramount as to how you grip much less throw a football.

2. Warners injury was to soft tissue as well surrounding the thumb, which made his recovery more complex.

sorry to :pee: on this thread, but this is only June ... firing out on this thread during mini-camp is just beating the same old :horse: this is football and Commanders and Cowboys alike will BOTH be going through the injuries... The time to worry about injuries is when the guys start going through the practices in Oxnard. Every NFL team will get their share as well, hopefully not many or serious though. May the best prepared guys get the spoils. Hopefully that will be Big D.

Yeah ... so what's your point? You were commenting about how great the Cardinals passing offense was last season with Warner at the helm. What happened to McCown this offseason is completely irrelevant, but comparing Warner's production to the other QBs on the team is necessary to measure whether the team's success had more to do with Warner, or his surrounding cast.

Warners numbers: 242 375 64.5 2713 7.2 11 9
McCowns numbers: 163 270 60.4 1836 6.8 9 11

Um, yeah, I've seen their stats, thanks. McCown had more yards per start and more TDs per start than Warner did.
