This "can't read a defense" and "system QB" stuff is complete BS. EVERY QB is a system QB. That's why almost every QB who can't stay in the same offense for an extended period, fails.
Petty can make every throw. He has a strong arm and a good release. He absolutely CAN read a defense. His biggest question is being able to take passes under center and then make his drop while reading. That's what a QB coach is for,
All that said, I wouldn't take him in the first two days. He's absolutely hands down better than Hundley though. Anyone saying different is on some serious narcotics.

We get this weird and terrible feeling Petty will be drafted early than we and most expect, potentially the second round. There are some nice moments with Petty, but when things broke down in terms of pressure or when throwing to covered receivers off an initial look, he did not respond well. The Bills should not be confident in the future of any of the QBs on their roster, so we approve of Rex working out passers.
I think he is a solid prospect. Not a day one starter but has the physical tools and intangibles to be a very good starter. He needs two years of coaching and practice reps to learn how to play under center and how to read NFL defense and go through progessions. But he'll get it.
I think he is a 2nd rounder
I like Petty. Probably the only QB I do like
Every criticism or concern about Marcus Mariotta applies to Bryce Petty.
