Jerry should feel disappointment if we miss out yet again.

Sure he will be for a day or two then he perks back up and looks for silver linings. He always has and always will.

Seriously. 4 years in a row we've had the playoffs completely under our control. If we fail for a fourth time, Garrett's gone

That might just happen. Just out of curiosity, who is a hot candidate that might dare take on the Cowboys? Maybe Jerry bends Lacewell's ear on this one. jk

Garrett probably sticks around.

Flash forward if the Cowboys are eliminated from the playoff picture:

"Not making the tournament is not an Armageddon issue with him. Is our arrow moving up? Did we show progress with the young players we had? I believe the arrow is pointing up with Jason as I stand here today and that is why he will continue as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys."---cue the wink.

I think Garrett sticks around as well. If they do let him go, I'd take Harbaugh or David Shaw from Stanford.

I doubt either would be falling all over themselves to be the head coach in this situation. Nor do I think Jones will get angry enough to disturb the current level of comfort he has to hire some stranger he has no history with, nor anyone his drinking partners are not vouching for.

Try selling that to the fanbase after a 6-1 start..................this would be the first time in franchise history that a Cowboys team that started 6-1 or better didn't make the playoffs..................don't think the fans will be as forgiving as you are suggesting.

If Jerry really cared what the fans think, he would have hired a GM years ago. The only time he was really concerned was when he was trying to get Jerry World built and hired Parcells.

That is precisely why I do not understand how fans can chant his name when basically they mean little to him beyond the revenue they bring in.

I really hope, not that they need reminding, that the Cowboys are reading these headlines. It's time to get back to playing like the underdog, and attack.

Yea true. They have a huge monkey on their back only they can remove.

I think they have to get to 10 wins for Garrett to be safe....................a 1-3 December would put the team at 9-7...............Garrett's head coach resume would look like this for the last 4 seasons.

8-8
8-8
8-8
9-7

Do you give a head coach with this record a brand new extension and sell it to the fanbase as well?........................This would look much better and would give Jerry some cover for an extension

8-8
8-8
8-8
10-6

Well the good news is that 2 of the last 4 teams we face are sub .500 teams...

Unless I dreamed it I think a few weeks ago Jerry was talking that he felt this team had a chance to go to the SB.

Actually, the Bears' QB that night was Josh McCown.

Which actually makes it worse. If McCown beat the Cowboys that badly, then Jay Cutler could only be an even bigger problem.

I was at that game. It was cold. Beer literally freezing in my hand. By the end of it, I didn't recognize guys playing linebacker.

The matchup really isn't too great.
The only thing they defend even marginally well is the run--which we must have in cold weather. Plus, we definitely stuggle with big WRs.

Last year, you could have plugged any QB into a lineup and they would have taken apart that defense. It was basically guy off the street trying to make it work...and Kiffin was in a bit over his head.

Anyway, it should be a much better game this year, though I would not want to predict an outcome.
I think our chances are not as good as some think vs Chicago and better than some think at home vs Indy.
Who knows, maybe we win both.

As much as this game is important to us, it's equally important to the Bears, as their playoff hops really ride on this game. As our division hopes, and even playoff hopes do to.
But a loss basically eliminates them from the playoffs.
I think if they lose, and the Seahawks or Lions win, they are out. This is a playoff game for them.

So I expect a tough game anyway, but now even more so. As they will pull out all stops for a win.
