Nothing like looking into the future...
Why wait? Let's take a sneak peak into the new player personnel matchups that are now on the table for the Dallas Cowboys 2014 season. Each team on the schedule (except for Washington, he he he) has new first-round blood in their lineups that will be projected to start. How will Dallas matchup against them? Let's see.
Week Date/Time Opponent First Round Pick Matchup Notes Zack Martin's Matchup
1 9/7 4:25pm San Francisco Jimmie Ward Ward was my highest rated safety for Dallas, the best single-high CF in the draft. He'll play some slot as well for the 49ers. Justin Smith, Tank Carradine
2 9/14 1pm @ Tennessee Taylor Lewan Lewan will probably take the right tackle spot, so the SDE will be the matchup here. Depending on how Spencer returns, this could be him, Crawford, Selvie... or all three. Jurrell Casey, Derrick Morgan
3 9/21 1pm @ St. Louis Greg Robinson, Aaron Donald Of course Aaron Donald is on the schedule for Dallas. Martin and Travis Frederick will have their hands full with the Rams defensive front of Quinn, Long and the two DTs. Robinson will get the same SDE rotation as above.
Aaron Donald (This will be the matchup here. The man that was targeted vs the man that was picked),
Michael Brockers
4 9/28 8:30pm New Orleans Brandin Cooks We all know how much of a problem Sproles and the Saints offense has been for Dallas; Cooks slides into that offensive weapon role for Drew Brees. Cam Jordan, Brodrick Bunkley
5 10/5 1pm Houston Jadeveon Clowney Best In Show. Could the Governor's Cup be a battle of the league's best defensive line vs the league's best offensive line? Clowney & Watt. Le Sigh.
6 10/12 4:25pm @Seattle None We have enough problems in the Pacific Northwest. At least it won't include one of the league's Top 32 rookies. Tony McDaniel, Brandon Mebane
7 10/19 4:25pm NY Giants Odell Beckham, Jr. Beckham is a matchup nightmare for any team, but really don't see any of the Cowboys corners being able to match his speed on the outside AND account for Cruz in the slot. Cullen Jenkins, Johnathan Hankins
8 10/27 8:30pm Washington None Man, I hate these guys. Jason Hatcher, Chris Baker, Jarvis Jenkins
9 11/2 1pm Arizona Deon Bucannon Deon Bucannon matches up with Tyrran Mathieu who handles slot duty as their free safety. With Peterson and Cromartie, this could match Seattle as the toughest secondaries on the schedule. Calais Campbell, Dan Williams, Darnell Docket
10 11/9 1pm
@ Jacksonville in London
Blake Bortles Will Bortles play Year One? We'll see... but with what I think of him, I hope so. Roy Miller, Sen'Derrick Marks
11 BYE BYE BYE I just don't see anyway Dallas loses this matchup, but never say never. Rest for the rookie
12 11/23 8:30pm
@ NY Giants
(NBC)
OBJ See Week 7, but with a road date. Take 2: Cullen Jenkins, Johnathan Hankins
13 11/27 4:30pm Philadelphia Marcus Smith One of the few "reaches" in the first round, Smith fills a huge pass rush specialist role for Philly. Of course, we have Tyron Smith so it really doesn't matter. Cedric Thornton, Bennie Logan, Fletcher Cox
14 12/4 8:25pm
@Chicago
(NFL Network)
Kyle Fuller Great, my top corner in the draft when Dallas travels to a house of horrors, nighttime December matchup in Chicago.
Henry Melton. Wait, he's with us now...
Lamarr Houston, Stephen Paea
15 12/14 8:30pm @Philadelphia Marcus Smith See Week 13, but on the road. Take 2: Cedric Thornton, Bennie Logan, Fletcher Cox
16 12/21 4:25pm Indianapolis None Look ma, it's Trent Richardson! Ma, why are you laughing? Stop laughing, ma. Cort Redding, Josh Chapman, Ricky Jean-Francois
17 12/28 1pm @ Washington None Divisional Championship Game, Take 4. One of these days, Alice... Take 2: Jason Hatcher, Chris Baker, Jarvis Jenkins
