We need better players at every level of this Defense. Who is the "QB" of this D? What is the identity of this D? Right now, we aren't just lacking talent-- we are lacking leadership across the board. Until we get more talent and develop some leaders-- we will be a middling D at best.

Breaking down the front seven of new Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s defense

What will Dan Quinn bring up front?

This is a good write-up.

Quinn's scheme has the look of a hybrid technique one, no matter how they are lined up, in their 4 man line, 2 players 1 gap, the other 2 two gap like 3-4 personnel.

My biggest question is, does DLaw play the 4T? Does he play the Leo, which is a hybrid LB/DE position? Another poster believes DLaw plays the Leo and more of a DT plays the 4T. Wonder in that case, would Gregory become more of a strong-side OLB?

Leo will likely be Gregory

Crawford can play the 4T.

without significant talent infusion from FA and the draft we are going to be worse than last year,we simply dont have the players to run Quinns Defense.

What are his nickel looks and does he always employ them vs 3 wide since that’s 80% of offensive looks now for most of the league outside Baltimore and SF

You talking more run defenders then pass rushers, which are less expense and can be drafted in the mid rounds.

1) Those fronts date to the Seahawks period.
2) In Atlanta, DQ's best DL, Grady Jarrett, a 1 tech, is /not/ a 2 gap player. He's a one gap penetrator.

My expectation is he'll run a 4 man front, but in general, DQ seems smart enough to adapt players to his scheme.

Grady Jarrett was generally the 3T, Davison was the 1T

Where he played most in the beginning is 1T. He became bit of both later. And feel free and look, it was known he was not a 2 gapper coming out of Clemson.
The article in Dallas News makes it pretty clear DQ has worked in a number of systems and seems to draw from all of them.

Didn't Seattle have red Bryant at DE at 325lbs?
With Alan branch/ tony Daniels and Brandon Mebane at dt?

Thats a lot of beef to stop the run up front

Alan Branch played 1T with Mebane at 3T in 2011-2012 his only years as a seahawk under Gus Bradley. In 2013 Mebane was the 1T with Tony McDaniel at 3T under Quinn and won the Super Bowl.

Red Bryant did play the 4T end for Seattle but he got replaced by Michael Bennett at some point.

Sad but true...............Except I'm willing to have even a middling defense as opposed to the horror show we were forced to witness this past season .

Not under Quinn as DC, Daniels replaced Branch, and Avril started phasing out Bryant in 2013. By 14 it was Avril Mebane Mcdaniels Bennett!

Agreed lol. Middling is an improvement over the dumpster fire they trotted out there last year
