To steal a phrase from legendary college football broadcaster Keith Jackson "Whoa Nellie!" There are some really good late games on this weekend.
#2 Florida State @ #10 Louisville 12 Noon Eastern ABC/Watch ESPN
The Seminoles go on the road to face the high powered Louisville attack. The responsibility for slowing down the Cardinals attack will fall squarely on the shoulders of Jimbo Fisher’s defensive front. Lamar Jackson can put the ball in the air with the best passers in the country, at least until he finds himself in obvious passing situations. There he struggles. If the FSU defense can force him into those types of situations it should slow down the red onslaught. Expect a close one in Kentucky to get the weekend started, but in the end the Redbirds will get their first taste of defeat on the season.
Middle Tennessee @ Bowling Green 12 Noon Eastern ESPN 3
The MAC vs C-USA showdown might not have the star power of an ACC vs SEC contest, but this one should be an exciting affair if you love offense. Both squads like to put the ball in the air. The difference is that MTSU also has a solid defense while the Falcons simply rely on out-scoring the opposition. That will be the difference in this game.
#1 Alabama @ #19 Ole Miss 3:30 PM Eastern CBS
Ole Miss has stopped the Tide’s roll the past two seasons. No team in college football has bested Nick Saban three times in a row, at least not since he has been in Tuscaloosa. If anyone has the horses to pull off the three-peat it would be the Rebels. Both squads feature top tier defense but it could come down to the quarterbacks. Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly could give his team the advantage over the freshman passer in crimson. My head says Roll Tide, but it should be a close one in Oxford.

This game looks to be the closest match up of the weekend. The Huskers are a three-point favorite according to most experts, that is the advantage given to the home team. On a neutral field this would be dead even. Both schools can put big numbers on the scoreboard. The Huskers do it by pounding the rock while the high flying flock from the Pacific Northwest like the big play. The difference in this one should be the Ducks struggle to adapt to a changed defensive scheme. That will be the difference as Big Red holds serve at home.

The Aggies go on the road for the first time to open SEC play. Although they are the ranked team, it is the Tigers who the experts seem to like here. Kevin Sumlin’s team often finds itself in a struggle with SEC West opponents and there is a better than average chance that the trend will continue this weekend. It pains me to say it, but War Eagle.
#12 Michigan State @ #18 Notre Dame 7:30 PM Eastern NBC
Sparty travels to South Bend for this meeting of ranked foes. DeShone Kizer has an incredible 7:1 touchdown to interception ratio this season but that could change in a hurry against the stingy MSU defense. It will be up to Mark Dantonio’s charges to carry the day if they are to win on the road this week. I like the Fighting Irish to win on the scoreboard, but if you are betting take the points. The Spartans usually keep the game closer than the spread.
#3 Ohio State @ #14 Oklahoma 7:30 PM Eastern Fox
I have been pointing toward this one since before the season began. If not for a hiccup by the Sooners during week one this would be a contest between top five powers. The Buckeyes are the better team in this affair, but on the other hand Oklahoma has the added motivation of knowing that a second loss will completely remove them from any hope of being in the national title hunt. That might be the difference maker as the home team pulls one out in Norman.
USC @ #7 Stanford 8:00 PM Eastern ABC/Watch ESPN
There are some good PAC-12 rivalries, and this is one of the most under-rated. USC had the misfortune to run into Alabama in week one, but rebounded handily. This week they go one the road to face another top ten school. If the Trojans defense can put together four quarters that are as solid as they were to start against the Crimson Tide this game will be a barn burner. If not then it will be another long night for the Men From Troy. My gut feeling is that they will rebound and take out the Cardinal.
