Dallas finally went offense in the third round when they selected offensive tackle Chaz Green out of Florida. Where will he fit in with the Cowboys stacked offensive line?
After a pair of highly-touted selections in the 2015 NFL Draft's opening two stanzas the Dallas Cowboys went in a different direction for their third-round selection; they brought in another offensive lineman. Unlike most of the recent selections for the offensive front, this one is not an immediate impact guy. Dallas took a a role player this time around when they selected University of Florida tackle Chaz Green. Even at that, some experts think pretty highly of his skillset.
OT Chaz Green would have received a 2nd-3rd round grade from me based on ability. But the durability issues hurt him. Talented player.

Jeremy Parnell departed for an opportunity to gain playing time and perhaps come in to his own as an NFL lineman, so the Dallas Cowboys had an opening for a solid swing tackle. With Tyron Smith and Doug Free firmly entrenched as the starting bookends for the Cowboys, Green will fill the role. Unless one of the starters suffers an injury, Green will have an opportunity to focus on getting better during the upcoming season. His most important responsibility for the immediate future will be to improve his technique and overcome bad habits under the guidance of Frank Pollock while he also focuses on adding some bulk and usable strength thanks to Mike Woicek.
The raw skills are there for Green, but injuries have hampered his development. By not having to step in and be the man at his position this year, development opportunities will present themselves. The potential is there, Chaz was a freshman All American following his redshirt year, now he has to find a way to break out of the dreaded "potential" rut. How well he is able to do that will go along way to determining his future in Dallas.
And For The Future?
Veteran right tackle Doug Free is the elder statesman of the Dallas offensive line. He is 31 years old and under contract through the 2017 season. Beyond that point, and perhaps even before, there will be a job opening on the Great Wall Of Dallas. With a couple seasons to refine his skillset and add some much needed strength which should also help to improve his durability, Chaz Green should find himself in a position to be the most logical contender to inherit the right tackle spot in Dallas. A high football IQ and natural talent will help him grow into his role as an NFL tackle, but those will only take him so far. If he can maintain his work ethic that has allowed him to battle back from multiple injuries; Chaz Green will be the right tackle of the future in Dallas.
Time and experience are his best friends right now. His future is bright, if he wants it to be. There is no reason to question that trait. An injury to one of the starters could accelerate his growth process and catapult Chaz toward his future sooner than expected, but for now he is the man who is expected to eventually slip seamlessly into Doug Free's cleats.
