The tandem of Dez Bryant and Laquon Treadwell would be a tough combo to stop.
Let it be said that smokescreens are a huge part of any draft process and with the fourth-overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Dallas Cowboys sit in an interesting, yet questionable position. Despite drafting in the top five, the pieces are there for the Cowboys to make a playoff run if they stay healthy.
The Cowboys aren't a lock to win the NFC East, but if Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and Orlando Scandrick stay healthy, and the team gets immediate production from their first-round pick, there is a thought that this year's Cowboys team could be better than the 2014 team, the same team who lost in the "It Was A Catch" game.
Despite being 35-years-old and having three season-ending injuries, Romo will be back and ready to roll in 2016. When Romo went down, the likes of Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden proved just how much No. 9 means to this franchise and just how good of a player he is. With Romo returning, the Cowboys' ground game will open up, as defenses won't be able to load the box. But if the Cowboys can bring in a player of Laquon Treadwell's caliber, the thought becomes that the offense would overwhelm the opposition and carry the defense.
NFL Network's Rand Getlin reported that Treadwell was flying to Valley Ranch for an official visit with the Cowboys. The past few weeks have hurt Treadwell's stock, as his 4.65 40, 4.25 short shuttle, and 7.05 cone drill have all brought up some questions over his acceleration speed. But when you throw on the game film of Treadwell, you see a player that absolutely dominates regardless of where he ends up on the field.
Treadwell's game has drawn comparisons to Dez Bryant's in terms of how well they use their body and how special they can be at the catch-point. In terms of draft needs, wide receiver looks to be a position the Cowboys are set at with Bryant, Terrance Williams, Brice Butler, and Cole Beasley. However, drafting Treadwell would give another playmaker, and a good one at that, for Romo to work with. And while many fans will want a defensive player with the fourth-overall pick, passing up on a guy like Treadwell that would immediately impact this offense is a bit tougher than it may seem.
The news of the Cowboys bringing Treadwell in for a visit is eye-opening, but it's plausible that the Cowboys did this so a receiver-needy team bites the bullet and trades up for the likes of Treadwell's services. Terrance Williams' job as the No. 2 receiver might be an issue for the Dallas offense, with his inconsistent play. Unless Bryant is on the field, Williams is incapable of beating defensive backs. He doesn't have the quick speed and he not only is an awkward route-runner, but he still hasn't figured out how to catch with his hands.
Drafting Treadwell would put Williams in a spot he may fit better in, but because the Cowboys need to improve upfront and in the backend of their defense, drafting Treadwell looks to an extremely small possibility. But if the Cowboys want to trade back and stockpile their picks, and Treadwell keeps slipping, bringing the Ole Miss star in on top of other draft picks would equal to success, at least for the first night of the draft.
