Checking the good and the bad from the Cowboys romp over the Browns.
The Dallas Cowboys went to Cleveland and routed the Browns. They performed well in every facet of the game, so figuring out the winners is easy, picking any losers for the game is tough indeed. Still, we endeavor on and provide this list.
Winners
Dak Prescott - Just how efficient can a quarterback be? He went 21 for 27 with three touchdowns and a rating of 141.8. Considering two of his incomplete passes to Dez Byant could have been interference calls, and Bryant dropped another, it could have been even better. The rookie showed no hangover from last week’s struggles.
Ezekiel Elliott - He didn’t break the 100-yard barrier, but only because the Cowboys sat him for part of the fourth quarter when Alfred Morris picked up many of his 56 yards. Elliott had 92 yards, two touchdowns and some very physical running that helped set the tone for the Cowboys. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry.
Jason Witten - The old man had a throwback game, catching eight passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard game since 2013. He also started his 155th consecutive game, a franchise record. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Maliek Collins - The rookie defensive lineman had two of the Cowboys four sacks on the day. Not too shabby for a defensive tackle.
Cowboys linebackers - That unit combined for 18 tackles and two sacks on a defense that held the opponent to 10 points and only 45 yards rushing.
Gavin Escobar - What? The forgotten Escobar got into the action with his first catch and touchdown on the year.
Losers
Dez Bryant - After a big week against Philadelphia, he only had one catch for 19 yards. In addition, twice defenders pulled one of his arms down right before the ball arrived, one of those almost assuredly a touchdown. He couldn’t get the calls from the refs. He also dropped a pass.
David Irving - Tossed out of the game on the first drive. Not smart for a guy trying to work his way into regular playing time.
Pundits who said the Cowboys defense would stink - Sure, it was a popular position before the season. Not so popular now. Still the only team to hold the opposition to 23 points or less in every game.
