The ex-safety is set to return to Big D.

The Dallas Cowboys have dipped back into their recent past by signing safety Danny McCray. According to reports, the ex-safety is now coming back to Dallas. McCray played with he Cowboys from 2010 through 2014 after making the team as an undrafted free agent out of LSU. Most of his career in Dallas was spent on special teams where he led the team in tackles on that unit a couple of years in a row and was a team captain. He did fill in as a safety on defense when Barry Church went down with an injury in 2012, but was better suited to a special teams role only.

Last year McCray signed a deal with the Bears, reuniting with special teams coach Joe DeCamillis. The Cowboys have been trying to re-stock their special teams unit after losing ace Dwayne Harris in free agency and not re-signing C.J. Spillman. McCray gives them an experienced backup safety and a first line special teamer. The Cowboys also signed linebacker Andrew Gachkar from San Diego, another player who excels at special teams.
