Another edition of the daily practice highlights for the Cowboys’ last day in Oxnard.
Well, at last, we’ve made it to the final day of practice in Oxnard. The Cowboys will head back to Frisco after the preseason game against the Colts to finish up their training camp. Before they head back to the Star, here are the highlights from today!

A moment of silence for the jams and, of course, David Helman:
The Cowboy packed up their speakers and put them on the truck back to Dallas, so there'll be no jams at practice today

Silver lining of not having music at practice: you can hear Rod Marinelli's ... adamant ... coaching tips, loud and clear.

We got some good news for cornerback Anthony Brown, he was back working at left corner:

Here is a list of the guys not practicing today, could be a teaser of who won’t play on Saturday:
Not practicing: Sean Lee, Ryan Switzer, Rico Gathers, Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Cedric Thornton, Benson Mayowa, Tyrone Crawford

Another guy who has been stepping it up, Orlando Scandrick. He used to have bricks for hands but he’s got his mitts on some footballs this summer:
It seems like Dak Prescott isn’t having his best day at the start of practice:
After sharp practice yesterday, Dak has struggled today. 3 consecutive passes: almost INT, overthrow, Scandrick pick. Here is overthrow: pic.twitter.com/67xAqXBU2U

What an interesting Deacon package?
Cowboys are running their Deacon defense with their 2nd-team, which features Jaylon Smith & Damien Wilson at LB.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 17, 2017
What’s the Deacon package, you ask:
Specialized dime package. 3 DL, 2 LB & 6 DB, with 1 LB serving as a pass rusher.
Cowboys used it often last year. https://t.co/ZU9f1PSlbo

It’s not too uncommon but the Cowboys took the pads off which made folks think it was over, it wasn’t:
Cowboys players taking off pads, but practice doesn't appear to be over

Cowboys back on the field in shells, doing team drills. Practice isn't over

It doesn’t look like Ezekiel Elliott will be getting the start on Saturday:
Given the early looks in scout team, don't look for Ezekiel Elliott to play Saturday with Darren McFadden taking... https://t.co/oH1h2gSkWy

The Cowboys want Chaz Green to win the left guard spot:
Jaylon Smith is getting more work with the ones, out of necessity:
First team linebackers: Damien Wilson, Jaylon Smith, Anthony Hitchens
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 17, 2017
Jaylon, a starter? A couple of more things that will affect the Colts game:
LB Jaylon Smith will likely start in his first game action for Cowboys on Saturday vs. Colts. LB Sean Lee (hamstring) hasn't practiced.
— Brandon George (@DMN_George) August 17, 2017
Judging by scout-team work, looks like you'll see a lot more of Cowboys DE Charles Tapper on Saturday vs. Colts.

Usually, the last practice of Oxnard is a tad bit more than a walkthrough and it always ends with a competition of sorts:
Cowboys ending practice with some challenges. Jameill Showers' pass hits Star on Jerry tower, Jeff Heath made FG, Dan Skipper fielded punt.
— Brandon George (@DMN_George) August 17, 2017
Cowboys doing competition to end practice. Not sure what they were aiming for but Jameill Showers hit it. Team lifted him on their shoulders
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 17, 2017
Jeff Heath then hit a 25-yard field goal. Team is pretty fired up
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 17, 2017
That’s a wrap on today’s practice, it was loose and as relaxed as you can get. Thanks for hitting up BTB every day to check in, coverage continues with the preseason game and practices at the Star!
