It doesn’t appear serious, but the Cowboys will hold out their star running back.
Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys star running back, was involved in a car crash and will miss part of the OTA sessions, according to multiple sources. Todd Archer at ESPN reports that Elliott was not seriously injured.
The sources said Elliott was did not suffer any significant injuries, but the team is being cautious with its star running back, who led the NFL with 1,631 yards in 2016. Elliott was a passenger in a car that was hit.
The Cowboys held a practice yesterday that was closed to the public and the press, but Elliott did not participate. He will also sit out today’s session which will be open to the press. Darren McFadden is taking the reps with the first team.
It doesn’t appear to be anything serious but this will explain his absence later today when he’s not participating in the Wednesday OTA. He must have suffered some kind of minor scrape or sore body part for the team to hold him out, but thankfully it looks like it’s nothing more than that.
[UPDATE: It’s being reported that the car Elliott was in was rear-ended, in a significant way, and that Elliott bumped his head.]
