Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott earn a spot in the Hall of Fame - Charean Williams, The Star-Telegram
Cowboys rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have their jerseys displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame along with a ball from last week’s game against the Eagles.
Here's the official press text the Pro Football Hall of Fame sent out.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame just received a football used by Dak Prescott in the Dallas Cowboys final regular season game of 2016 season against the Philadelphia Eagles on New Year’s Day. The football represents the fact that Dak finished the regular season with a 104.9 passer rating and surpassed Robert Griffin (102.4 in 2012) for the highest single-season passer rating by a rookie quarterback in NFL history. RGIII’s rookie jersey is already on display in the Pro Football Today Gallery, and Dak’s was just put on display today next to his teammate Ezekiel Elliot’s jersey.
See below for a list of Dak’s accomplishments that already landed him in the Hall of Fame.
- Had 13 wins as a starter, tied with Ben Roethlisberger (2004) for the most wins by a rookie starting quarterback in NFL history.
- Passed for 23 touchdowns with four interceptions and his 0.9 interception percentage is the lowest by a rookie quarterback in NFL history (minimum 200 passing attempts).
- Had 11 games with a 100+ passer rating, tied for the third-most in a single season in NFL history.
- Finished the season with a 104.9 passer rating, the highest single-season passer rating by a rookie quarterback in NFL history.
- Had multiple touchdown passes in five consecutive games in Weeks 6-11, tied for the longest such streak by a rookie in NFL history.
- Had 176 pass attempts without an interception to begin the season, surpassing Tom Brady (162) for the most pass attempts without an interception to start a career.
- Completed 32 of 36 passes (88.9 percent) for 279 yards in Week 15, the second-highest completion percentage in a single game in NFL history (with a minimum of 30 attempts).
Of course, the two rookies have been in the Hall of Fame for a while now already. It took only five regular season games before the Hall grabbed the jerseys Dak and Zeke wore after becoming the first pair of rookie teammates in NFL history to throw for at least 1,000 yards (Prescott) and run for at least 500 yards (Elliott) in the first five games of their rookie seasons.
Ezekiel Elliott Leads Cowboys List Of All-Pro Selections For 2016 Season - Dave Halprin, Blogging The Boys
Cowboys rookie Ezekiel Elliott receives another honor, leading a group of five Dallas players on the All Pro list.
Ezekiel Elliott was voted in as the first-team running back. The Cowboys also placed Tyron Smith, Zack Martin and Travis Frederick on the first-team offense. In a fix of the Pro Bowl snub, Sean Lee was voted in as a first-team member of the defense at linebacker. The Cowboys led the league with five first-team members.
Lack of playoff experience is not a major concern for the Cowboys - Drew Davison, The Star-Telegram
Ezekiel Elliott doesn't think the Cowboys’ lack of playoff experience will be an issue.
Why not?
"Cause we’re competitors, that’s what we love to do," Elliott said. "We go out there and compete. We’ve done it all season. I mean, we’ve played in big games all season, every game in this league is a big one.
"Every time they play the Dallas Cowboys, especially when you’re winning, you’ve got a target on your back and you’re going to get the team’s best. I think the season has prepared us for this."
Jerry Jones supports Gregory, says fight to get him playing again isn’t over - Clarence Hill, The Star-Telegram
Jones is hopeful to get Gregory back on the field, perhaps even earlier than in a year.
It was a move that was expected, but not one that Jones and the Cowboys agree with. Nor does it appear to be one they will live with, though Jones would not go into detail on how they will fight to get Gregory back on the field.
"All I will say is it was not a surprise in terms of them dismissing his arguments at the hearing," Jones said. "Right now, I’m not at liberty to talk about what we’ll do regarding specifically the ruling by the mediator and the league. Stay tuned there."
Jones hinted at possible changes in how the league handles marijuana, relative to the many states which have legalized and decriminalized it.
However, he declined to be specific because he didn’t want to negatively influence the case.
But Jones made it clear that "the case is very much active and the resolution of it has a lot of different possibilities" that has him hopeful of Gregory getting back on the field at some point.
Cowboys' call led to 'big-eye' moment for Jonathan Cooper - Todd Archer, ESPN
Jonathan Cooper didn't expect to find a team quickly after the Browns released him on Dec. 27, but then the Cowboys called.
"That was one of those big-eye moments," Cooper said. "I was like, 'Wow, they're on track to do something special, and they want to include me in it.' So that was pretty exciting."
Jerry Jones: "Same cats that picked [Tyron, Travis & Zack] are the same guys who thought [Jonathan] Cooper was going to be the next coming."

Playoff Payday: How Much Do NFL Players Get Paid for Playoff Games? - Kristi Scales, 5 Points Blue
Many players make a lot less in the playoffs than they do during the regular season.
If the Cowboys go all the way to the Super Bowl and win, that’s an extra $183,000 for those 3 games combined (Divisional Round, Championship Game, and Super Bowl win).
Hey, sounds like good money…and it is. But in reality, for veterans, playoff paychecks are much smaller than regular season games.
