Today the Dallas Cowboys cut nine players, moved one to the PUP list, and two to IR to get down to the league-mandated 75-player roster limit. Some of these cuts were expected (you can see how well the FPWs did in guessing, here). Some of them might not have been so obvious. So let's look at the list and see if we can glean any information from it.

First, Jay Ratliff was moved to the PUP list which means he'll miss at least six weeks. The first game we might see him back is Oct. 20th against the Eagles. This move had been telegraphed by Jerry Jones over the past few days.

Defensive end Tyrone Crawford was officially moved to IR, joining him is center/guard reserve Ryan Cook.

Players Cut:

WR Jared Green
WR Eric Rodgers
WR Anthony Amos
QB Nick Stephens
P Brett Maher
OG Dennis Godfrey
LB Deon Lacey
TE Colin Cochart
CB Brandon Underwood

WR - Many of the FPWs had either Jared Green or Eric Rodgers, and everybody thought Anthony Amos would also go. What it does say is the team thinks Cole Beasley is healthy again and ready to go in the Texans game. It also hints the only real issue to decide here is Anthony Armstrong as the sixth guy or not.

QB - It was a foregone conclusion that Nick Stephens wouldn't make the 53-man roster, but there was speculation he might see some time or be the main backup in the Texans game in case Alex Tanney got hurt. Guess Kyle Orton will have to be on stand-by for that game.

P - Brett Maher was just a leg for preseason.

G - With so many injuries at the position, when they would let Dennis Godfrey go was just a matter of timing. After the Texans game, before it? Cowboys decided on before.

LB - Deon Lacey just never got on the radar screen for Dallas, no surprise here.

TE - Dallas has used a lot of multiple TE sets in the preseason, keeping back of the roster guys Andre Smith and Colin Cochart busy. But not busy enough for Cochart who gets the boot.

CB - Brandon Underwood was battling for a longshot CB spot, the Cowboys could go with just five at the position with B.W. Webb and Sterling Moore in reserve.
