The Cowboys signed LB Keith Smith from the practice squad and waived DE Lavar Edwards to make room on the 53-man roster.
LB Keith Smith may have jumped the gun a little yesterday when he tweeted that he'd be called up from the practice squad, but in this day and age, sometimes the players are a better source of information than the teams themselves.
53 meee! Leaague mee! I prayed on it, I believed in it, and I worked for it. With faith and works God… http://t.co/m4UVVIjevq

In any case, the Dallas Cowboys confirmed the move today. Keith Smith was called up from the practice squad to provide some depth at linebacker, where injuries are adding up. The move suggests that Rolando McClain probably won't play against the Rams tomorrow, though no announcement about McClain's status has been made yet.
Keith Smith joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State, where the 6' 1", 230 lbs linebacker led the team with 159 tackles in 2013. Smith was a team captain at San Jose state and finished his four-year career with 45 starts in 49 games played, amassing 476 tackles, ninth in FBS history and second in school history.
To make room for Smith on the 53-man roster, the Cowboys waived defensive end Lavar Edwards. The Cowboys had acquired Edwards from the Titans in the preseason for a conditional seventh-round pick. Edwards was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 draft by the Titans out of LSU. Edwards played 15 snaps in the season opener against the 49ers, but was inactive in the second game against the Titans.
Waiving Edwards does not automatically void the trade with the Titans. Edwards is likely to be brought back to the practice squad - if he isn't claimed off waivers by another team. And if he's called back up at some point, and gets a total of 10 games on the 53-man roster in 2014, the Cowboys will owe a seventh-round pick in 2015 to the Titans.
