After a week of progress, the Saints' starting quarterback is ready to go Sunday night.

There was a belief the Sunday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints would be a battle of backup quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Luke McCown, but that is not going to happen. Drew Brees is now expected to start for the Saints. The Cowboys, of course, are still almost two months from the return of Tony Romo.
Like Weeden, McCown has a statistically good outing last Sunday, going 31 of 38 for 310 yards and one interception. But he was unable to manage any touchdown passes, again like Weeden, and also saw his team lose. Brees is one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league when it comes to throwing touchdown passes.
Brees is recovering from what is described as a rotator cuff strain in his throwing arm. The decision to put him back in the lineup was based on the judgment that he could make all the throws he needed to despite having to play through some pain. Although teams always feel they are better off with their starter, there is at least some risk that Brees could have some bad throws due to his injury.
In a season where so many of the breaks have gone against the Cowboys, this is yet another one. With Brees back on the field, the need for the Cowboys to get more of a pass rush is even greater. The return of Jeremy Mincey may help with that, but this is going to take a full-out effort on both sides of the ball for Dallas to pull out a win.
