I completely disagree with Halprin here.
I think he's way off base. First, I don't think either of the top two names he mentions, Olivier Vernon or Malik Jackson are legitimate options for Dallas anyway. I fully expect Vernon to re-up or be franchise tagged by Miami, and Jackson has already been offered $10 million per year from Denver! Anyone think Dallas could or would compete with that for an interior defensive lineman?
And Bruce Irvin is a 245 lb role player for the Seahawks who averages about 5.5 sacks a year! Is that the guy you want to pony up for in free agency???
The more I look at any of these supposed 'alternatives', the more it makes me want to stick with 'the devil I know' in Greg Hardy.
I would take Super Mario in a heartbeat over Hardy...Har...Har...!

You do that! And get ready to pay roughly double the price.
For a guy who is 31 compared to Hardy's 27 who had less sacks, despite playing in 15 games to Hardy's 12.
We know where your opinion comes from and it has nothing to do with on-field performance.
Vernon is the only FA DE the Cowboys should be considering but, I agree, he probably will be franchised. The guy is legit, though, and could help the Cowboy immensely.
True...True. With Mario and Bosa on board and moving DL to the other side, we will fare well enough.
Ugh! Bosa! Insult to injury! Not only do you want to overpay a declining player in Williams, now you want to waste the #4 overall pick and an opportunity at a quarterback of the future for a lesser player!
Just...no.
Our pass rush issues are not that different from our offensive issues. We have a scheme that relies on winning one on one match ups in order to succeed. It wouldn't matter if we had the best 2 DE's in the entire league over the last 20 years. The League is too good. Teams will just leave a guy back to double and neutralize them anyway. The reason Denver and Carolina and Seattle get so much pressure on the QB isn't because these teams have the best pass rushers. It's because they have coaches that put guys in position to succeed. Von Miller would probably end up with 6 sacks on this team. We would line him up at DE and tell him to go win the one on one matchup. Denver knows when and how to send him and how to disguise the pressure so the Offense doesn't know who is coming and when it's coming.
This strategy to line up and win one on one match ups will never allow us to have the type of defense Jerry and Co want.

That's right. I don't see any way we spend a #4 on someone who will sit for at least 2 years. Makes no sense when
you want to get Romo & Witten to a championship game. I don't think Stephen will want to do that either.
Garrett
is going to want a player on the field cause this might be his last campaign.
No, what "makes no sense" is naively thinking that any player you get at #4 will do that. It's this same 'one player', 'quick fix' mentality that keeps this team spinning its' wheels at .500 for the past 5 years.
If that's the case, fire him now because he's putting his own self interests ahead of what's in the best long-term interests for the organization. Any front office person who would put themselves ahead of the team shouldn't be here and any coach willing to make decisions based on that needs to go.
That's what everyone said about Jared Allen & Demarcus Ware before they had pretty good seasons too?

But he would cost an absolute fortune too, even if he was available. Defensive tackles are getting $10 million right now, even average ones! The top defensive end in free agency would likely command $15 million per year or more. I don't see this team being able to afford that.
