The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is well down the road to recovery.
Over the last few OTA sessions the Dallas Cowboys have been very careful with how much they allow Tony Romo to participate. He's been doing some of the individual drills, some light throwing, and other drills, but the Cowboys have not let him participate in any of the "competitive" parts of the practices. The team drills have seen Brandon Weeden running the team with Caleb Hanie and Dustin Vaughan backing him up. So the question is how far along is Romo?
According to Romo, via a nice article from David Helman at the mothership, he could play this Sunday if he had to.
To hear it from Romo, though, he would be able to suit up if the Cowboys had a game on Sunday. The surgery he underwent on a herniated disc in his back on Dec. 27 is roughly 23 weeks behind him, and Romo said the slow portion of his rehab is as well.
"I don’t think it’s slow anymore. I think earlier on, right after surgery, you kind of go through that mode of getting healthy – kind of having to not do too much right away," he said. "But now I’m to a point where you can push it and kind of go, and I feel like at this point I could play in a game if I had to."
"Obviously you wouldn’t want to right yet, just to let it completely scar up and heal in all the areas that you want," he said. "But in the next couple weeks I think I’ll be 100 percent."
Fortunately Romo still has a few months before he had to line up against the San Francisco 49ers, but it's good to hear he feels he's that far along. By training camp, he should be ready to see some real action, minus the hitting part. Romo talks about more aspects of his rehab including what he thinks about taking his first hit since the surgery in the near future. Head on over and give it a read, then come on back and hit the comments.
