Who shined and who faltered for the Cowboys in their win over the Eagles.
It was an incredible comeback victory for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, overcoming a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys stole one away from NFC East rival Philadelphia to grab a two game lead in the division. Let’s take a look at who stood out, and who struggled, in the stirring victory.
Winners
Dez Bryant - The star receiver got back into the offense and grabbed four passes for 113 yards, and a huge touchdown late in the game. He got the Cowboys jump-started in the first quarter with a 53-yard bomb. And importantly, he came out of the game fully healthy, it looks like he’s back.
Fourth Quarter/OT Dak Prescott - When the chips were down, Dak came through, the two drives he led in the fourth quarter and in overtime were things of beauty. Those were signs that he has the “it” factor, the ability to turn things on when needed most.
Sean Lee - The linebacker was involved with 11 tackles in the game. He also had two of the biggest plays in the game when he initiated a sack and dumped a running back for a loss.
Tyrone Crawford - He got the big contract, but hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. But last night he had 1.5 sacks and recovered a fumble. If he can start playing like that consistently then maybe he will earn that large contract.
Dan Bailey/Chris Jones - Bailey nailed all his kicks and Chris Jones had the huge 30-yard scamper on the fake punt.
Jason Garrett - If only for the call for a fake punt and going for it on fourth down, he’s a winner. But he also managed to keep his team engaged and motivated throughout a game where they were playing poorly. Has his “process” finally paid off? Do the players believe in him and want to play for him? It seems like it, and he’s trusting in them by gambling a lot more this season than he has in the past.
Losers
Cowboys Secondary - Barry Church fractured his forearm and will miss 3-5 weeks if they don’t have to perform surgery. Morris Claiborne could potentially miss a lot more if they have to preform surgery on his groin. They played really well, but that’s two big hits for a unit that needs to perform well with the lack of consistent pass rush.
Lucky Whitehead - He decided to run the opening kickoff out of the endzone and promptly fumbled it, only luck saved him as it bounced right back to him. He decided to field a punt that was going into the endzone, and combined with a penalty backed Dallas up costing them field position and eventually leading to Eagles points. Not good decisions.
First Three Quarters Dak Prescott - The quarterback looked like a rookie, and a fourth-round one at that. He consistently underthrew passes, probably from poor footwork. He also threw a redzone interception and was saved from another by Terrance Williams. A terrible performance, until he turned everything around.
Discipline - 11 penalties for 84 yards. Many of them on special teams and defense. The Cowboys gifted the Eagles three points by getting caught with 12 men on the field during a punt. Blocks in the back, chop blocks, personal fouls, the Cowboys players had one of their most undisciplined games of the season.
