Tonight's game is the fabled "last stand" for a lot of guys on the Dallas Cowboys roster and on teams across the NFL. By Saturday, the organization needs to be down to a 53-man roster. So where are the battles left to be fought?
QB - Alex Tanney looks like he's going to get most if not all of the game to prove himself. Is he worthy of a spot on the 53, or is he someone the Cowboys want to sneak on to the practice squad? Or does he get exposed to the point where the Cowboys lose some faith in him overall? Hard to say, but my guess is he goes to the practice squad no matter what he does tonight.
RB - With Lance Dunbar's injury, it's likely the Cowboys keep all four running backs who have seen the majority of the playing time. Kendial Lawrence wants to at lest put some good things on tape before he is cut.
WR - This is an interesting one. Do the Cowboys keep six? Anthony Armstrong has a chance to force that decision to go his way with his play tonight. Danny Coale is fighting to get noticed, perhaps as a practice squad player.
TE - The top four seem to be set in most observer's minds, so is fifth-guy Andre Smith just playing out the string?
OL - Kevin Kowlaski, David Arkin, Darion Weems and Demtress Bell are all bubble guys to some extent and will be making their case to stay on the 53-man roster tonight.
DL - Is Sean Lissemore assured a place or could he be in trouble? Could Landon Cohen force his way in? It's hard to see any other surprises along the d-line.
LB - There's a race for what looks like the last linebacker spot. Cameron Lawrence, Caleb McSurdy and Brandon Magee are in a dogfight, Magee's concussion could hurt his chances.
CB - For most of preseason the top five have looked set, with the last one being Sterling Moore. Micah Pellerin is trying to force his way into the five, or at least make the Cowboys carry six.
S - Matt Johnson's injuries make him hard to evaluate, but a real battle could be brewing with Jeff Heath, Danny McCray and Eric Frampton for a spot.
So who ya got in these battles? Anybody you think I missed who should be in the mix?
