We know about the NFC East, but where else are the Cowboys headed?
Now that the 2017 schedule for the Dallas Cowboys is out, let’s take a look at the biggest road tests for our team this season.
Atlanta Falcons
The Cowboys head to the brand new Georgia Dome in Week 10 of the 2017 season to face the defending NFC Champs, the Atlanta Falcons. This game will provide Dallas an opportunity to see who they want to become as Atlanta boasts a veteran quarterback, a pair of stud running backs and a proven set of wide receivers. While Dallas can compete effectively with Atlanta when comparing the offenses, the Falcons defense was on the rise at the end of last year. Assuming both teams can replicate their success last year, look for this to be the most important game for the NFC standings this season.
Denver Broncos
The Cowboys have an early duel with the Broncos as they head to Denver in Week 2 of the NFL season. The Broncos have a remarkably effective defense and will look to give their young quarterback every possible opportunity to win. Similar to the Cowboys, Denver finds itself in a very competitive division that has the potential to send three teams to the playoffs. Even though former Cowboys DeMarcus Ware and Wade Phillips are no longer there, the Broncos will still compete with Von Miller.
Oakland Raiders
In what might be the best game of the season, the Dallas Cowboys head to Oakland to match up against the Raiders in Week 15. Fortunately for Dallas, they will be playing in a warmer climate this late in December, which is unusual given that they have found themselves in the Midwest and Northeast in December in recent years. The Oakland Raiders have mimicked the Cowboys with their player development and draft style. They feature a superstar offensive line and they have a young quarterback and a pair of wide receivers who can compete with most tandems in the league. The addition of Marshawn Lynch (if it happens) will be an interesting twist.
New York Giants
No matter the year or the team, Cowboys/Giants always provides drama. In Week 13, to kick off December 2017, the Dallas Cowboys will head to New York to face the Giants. While Week 1 will provide a head-start for the winning team, this late season game will be important for playoff standing. In recent years, the Cowboys have struggled to win in New York (two straight losses), so Dallas will need to bring their best to beat Eli and the Giants. Look for this to be a tough matchup for the Cowboys new secondary with New York featuring Brandon Marshall to go along with Odell Beckham, Jr.
While road games in Philadelphia and Washington DC are always hard-fought and competitive, traveling to Atlanta, Denver, Oakland and New York will provide Dallas their toughest road tests.
What do you think? Which city will be the toughest to play in?
