Rayford is not a household name among NFL fans. Rayford went undrafted out of college in 2008 and joined the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League where he spent a year on their practice roster. Rayford then spent one year with the Spokane Shock, an Arena Football League team, before moving on to the Utah Blaze, another AFL team, where he played from 2010 until the Colts picked him up in May this year.

In four years with Utah (2010-2013), Rayford recorded 28.5 sacks, 16 pass breakups and 9 forced fumbles - enough to make the Colts take notice. In four preseason games for the Colts, Rayford played 206 snaps, recorded five sacks, two QB Hits and four QB hurries, which is more than any Cowboys player had in five preseason games. Plus, two of those sacks came against the Giants in week two of the preseason.

Rayford brings intriguing size at 6 ft 7 in and weighs in at 265 lbs. Rayford is already 27 years old, but the Pro Personnel Department must have seen something in the Arena League edge rusher to give him a roster spot.

With Rayford, the Cowboys have filled their last open roster spot and are back at 53 players. The Cowboys have been busy this week, as the trade for Rayford is the fourth the Cowboys have made since final roster cuts: The Cowboys traded for Edgar Jones from Kansas City and sent Sean Lissemore to San Diego and Dante Rosario to Chicago, both for draft picks.
