One of the last looming free agency questions has been answered. The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with their starting middle linebacker.

It's been a back and forth type of negotiation, but that's just how these things play out sometimes. The Dallas Cowboys were reported to have competition in the New England Patriots, but although he visited, he never signed.

Once back in Dallas, the Cowboys thought it best for them to retain his services. Ed Werder of ESPN reported the terms of the deal are only one-year but the deal is worth up to $3,000,000 with another $1,000,000 in playtime incentives.

McClain was second on the team in tackles for 2014, graded a +16.2 according to PFF, and had two game-sealing interceptions. His presence was often felt on gameday as Marinelli told the media "when he hits you, you'll know it."

The Dallas Cowboys can now fulfill their agenda by switching Sean Lee to the weak side, and creating some competition for the strong-side position. It also takes pressure off newly signed Jasper Brinkley and gives the Cowboys solid depth along the position.

The enigmatic but beastly middle man is back roaming the Cowboys' defense. Now Cowboys can resume focus on this month's upcoming draft.

And it looks like the Cowboys plucked McClain out from under the Patriots' noses.

Per source, LB Rolando McClain received an offer from the Patriots, but ultimately decided to stay where things were familiar to him.
