Hitch was really the only player that stood out.
Oof. That was ugly, to say the least.
Dak Prescott had asbsoultely no time — thanks in large part to Chaz Green’s embarrassing performance — the running game was really only effective on one possession, and the defense completely fell apart once Sean Lee left the game in the first half with a hamstring injury.
Aside from the opening defensive possession and the ensuing offense drive capped off by an impressive Dak rushing touchdown, everything that could go wrong on Sunday went all kinds of wrong.
We’ll have to wait and see how this team responds. Will Tyron Smith be able to go next week against the Eagles and give our quarterback a chance to make plays? Will Sean Lee be ready to suit up, or will the hamstring injury linger on throughout the week?
The one player that came to play was linebacker Anthony Hitchens.
Hitchens drilled running back Devonta Freeman on the second snap of the game for the Falcons’ offense. From then on, Hitch played extremely well. He was reading Atlanta’s plays, exploding once the ball was snapped, and seemed to be in the mix on about every defensive play for the Cowboys.
He played lights out in a game that just about everybody else struggled in. Just take a look at this series of tweets talking about Hitchens’ play:
Anthony Hitchens looks healthy.

THIS is how you fill against the run. #Cowboys LB Anthony Hitchens took that man's soul. pic.twitter.com/nvI6k4Bz30

Hitch’s ten total tackles led the team, five of which were solo, he added a TFL, and he seemed to play great for a defense that struggled mightily as the offense could not stay on the field and the defense could not get off it once Lee had to leave.
In a game that really didn’t have any bright spots, Anthony Hitchens gets this week’s game ball.
Honorable mention to Chris Jones. The punter continues to show that he is among the league’s best at downing teams deep in their own territory. Jones is such a weapon in terms of winning the battle of field possession in each game.
Oh, and he nearly completed a fake punt conversion on an impressive throw to Brice Butler. Unfortunately, Butler was called for offensive pass interference, and it was called back.

The Cowboys need to bounce back in a big way next Sunday night against Philadelphia at home. Here’s hoping Hitchens and Jones — along with the rest of the team — play well in a crucial divisional game.
