We'll keep a running tab on what is going on out at Valley Ranch today as the Dallas Cowboys participate in their minicamp. Today marks the first day of the mandatory practices and this time the press is allowed in.

So far we've noted that both Rolando McClain and Ronald Leary will be present at the minicamp. But, given their absence at the OTAs, the Cowboys will be slowly working them into practice.

Rolando McClain, Ron Leary will not be full participants. Will do non-competitive drills and then work on conditioning

We also posted the unfortunate injury news about Darren McFadden (fractured elbow) and Benson Mayowa (knee scope).

Others who are partial participants in today's practice:

Rolando and Leary were on hand, didn't participate. Usual suspects of Lee, DLaw, Escobar, Dunbar, Scandrick, Dez all sat out of full team.

— David Helman (@HelmanDC) June 14, 2016

Helman was impressed with the progress made by Lance Dunbar and Gavin Escobar.

Escobar & Dunbar sat out, like I said. But did run some routes and such off to the side. Impressive progress IMO.

As for who played where, a few nuggets from Bryan Broaddus on Twitter. David Irving took over at LDE as the starter. Randy Gregory and Michael McAddoo worked the main reps on the right side. Backing up Irving on the left side were Charles Tapper and Ryan Russell. Jack Crawford also got a lot of work at defensive end but Broaddus didn't make clear exactly where and what amount of reps he got.

BUT, Jon Machota says that Russell was getting first-string reps on both sides.

Ryan Russell got right and left DE reps with first team

This is an interesting note.

Ezekiel Elliott and Morris Claiborne both worked on returning kickoffs

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) June 14, 2016

Elliott also got the majority of the snaps with the first-string.

And finally, this from Todd Archer.

Sean Lee went through resistance training as he works his way back from knee surgery. The hope is he will be ready day 1 of training camp.

Nice to hear Dunbar and Escobar are doing well and impressed. Pretty much what you'd expect to hear from the FO's behaviors but still nice to hear.

DFW | Morris Claiborne tweaks hamstring during Cowboys minicamp

By Drew Davison

Cornerback Morris Claiborne didn’t participate in team drills near the end of practice, as he tweaked a hamstring earlier in the day.

Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said it was a precautionary move. This is not the time of year, after all, for players to try and play through minor injuries.

Marinelli did praise Claiborne’s offseason to date, and feels the former first-round pick is in line for a solid season in 2016. But this has to be considered a setback for the injury-prone Claiborne.

Claiborne, 26, has missed 24 of 64 games in his career because of injuries.

Yeah..maybe he confused 34 with 24. I can't think of a dumber idea than assigning Claiborne to KR/PR...hell, even special teams at all.

Their body types are so different though. It would be difficult for me to confuse the two but you never know.

There's no confusion...second time someone has reported this on different occasions...Mo returned kicks at lsu ...not saying it's a good idea here...just saying

Oh...I think he has the athleticism to do it, but this dude has a hard time staying healthy while shadowing WR's...and he's going to be put out there to take hits? That's like giving Sean Lee some carries as a FB or Romo playing in the slot.

I can see Elliott being a very good kick returner but waaaay too risky... I hope this is just to give him a look there.

Probably giving Zeke a look at kick returner so when Lance Dunbar gets back they can still get the rookie on the field in some way.
