The Cowboys got taken to the woodshed by Denver and now at least one high profile announcer says they need what Romo offered.
With Dak Prescott alarmingly average vs. Broncos, Troy Aikman said it: Cowboys miss Tony Romo Barry Horn, Dallas Morning News
Well it only took two games into his retirement for the discussion got kicked off about how much the Dallas Cowboys need Tony Romo to be successful. You knew it would come sooner or later, it just seems strange where it came from first.
"They've lost out on some of the big plays that they used to get when Romo was quarterbacking. They haven't been able to get any big plays this afternoon." - Troy Aikman
Yes Dak was bad on Sunday. So were the pieces around him.
VIDEO: Garrett: Cowboys Didn't 'Play Up To Their Standard' NBCDFW
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett feels the Cowboys didn't "play up to their standard" in the 42-17 loss to the Denver Broncos.
One of the most humiliating defeats of the Jason Garrett era Matt Mosley, Dallas Morning News
This is the one time that I can remember when a Jason Garrett team honestly looked to me like they felt that they had been beaten. Some ‘not so good’ teams were out classed on the field, but this squad was beaten.
The Denver Broncos owned the Dallas Cowboys in every phase of the game in a 42-17 drubbing in the Mile High City. Just a week removed from nearly pitching a shutout against the New York Giants, the Cowboys' defense was gashed for 178 rushing yards. This alleged Super Bowl contender will now try to pick up the pieces after this embarrassing road loss.
Cowboys spread the wealth in embarrassing defeat at Denver MacEngel, Ft. Worth Star-Telegram
There were failures at every level of the organization on the gridiron Sunday afternoon.
We have not seen these Cowboys since Wade Phillips was captaining the ship right to the bottom of the Trinity River. About the only difference between Sunday’s loss and some of Wade’s stinkers was that this version didn’t quit.
It is that one difference that gives hope. They got whipped; they never gave up.
Broncos passing attack shreds Cowboys’ secondary hampered by injury Kyle Fredrickson, Denver Post
They are young, and with the loss of leader Orlando Scandrick the Cowboys are thin and inexperienced in the secondary. In game injuries made them thinner. It was bound to happen, and on Sunday the Cowboys secondary paid the bill for the education they received.
“I really wasn’t supposed to play defense as much, just getting my footing down, but I had to come in and step up. I tried, but, obviously, it wasn’t my best performance. It was just a learning experience.” - Jourdan Lewis
There is no mercy in the NFL, and until the young guys prove themselves things will continue to happen. Fortunately the Cowboys selected players with a history of learning so soon the league will get paid back for what was taken this weekend.
Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys hit wall in blowout by Broncos Linsay H Jones, USA Today
The Cowboys offense is built to pound the ball and against the Broncos that is something they proved unable to do.
Elliott, who led the NFL in rushing last season, had just 8 rushing yards on nine carries in the Cowboys’ 42-17 loss to the Broncos Sunday afternoon at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Until midway through the third quarter, Elliott didn’t have a single yard.
Granted, once Dallas fell behind the plan shifted responsibility to the QB’s arm, but still they failed to establish themselves and forced the game onto Prescott.
Cowboys humiliated by Broncos in all phases Todd Archer, ESPN
The Cowboys were not ready for Sunday afternoon. They spent the whole game proving it.
There were some things we thought they were doing to keep Zeke pinned up and obviously that hurt us in play action passes and all of that. It’s important for us to get it together and go and so, you know, I was surprised frankly that even though we had all the respect in the world for their defense, I was surprised how they bottled us with Zeke as well as the throws that we had to make … I will state: that was not us as a team. But that might be Denver. My hat’s off to them.” - Jerry Jones.
Cowboys Nolan Carroll, Chidobe Awuzie go down Todd Archer,ESPN
Injuries happen; they are never an excuse and they will not be in Dallas.
Still they could not have came at a worse time for a young Dallas secondary who started the day without their captain, Orlando Scandrick.

One of the few memorable moments from a game that is worth forgetting.
Cowboys were humbled; why that might be a good thing Bob Sturm, Dallas Morning News
Sturm steps up and tells the world why it is not time to panic.
I have seen Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers brought to their knees in (Denver's) stadium. This is a very tough place to play and the Cowboys fell behind early and did not get to play the game they prefer. They avoided being behind all last season, but we see that is not a good spot. They are an offense where circumstances matter. They let this one get away, but it won't have much bearing on other games. Denver is a very tough place to play.
Bob Sturm has seen a lot of football in his day, and once again he is correct. This is one heck of a learning opportunity for a squad who needs to learn another lesson to further its growth.
