The Dallas Cowboys are back at practice today for their 16th session of training camp. It's business as usual, some cuts, some additions, football is almost here.

After a day off, the Cowboys are back out on the practice fields in Oxnard to continue their preparation for the 2015 season. However, they will first start piecing together their roster for preseason contest number two.

Will Tony Romo Play In Any Preseason Games? - Tom Ryle - Blogging The Boys
A shaky situation with starting offensive linemen may make putting the quarterback on the field for any preseason games just too risky. Our Tom Ryle questions whether Romo should take any part in the preseason.

This year, with a very strong slate of opponents in the first half of the schedule, the Cowboys need to come out of the gate strong. If the starting offensive line in the remaining preseason games still is relying on players like Darrion Weems, Mackenzy Bernadeau and La'el Collins, is it wise to even put Romo out there in games that don't mean anything at all in the long run?

Cowboys Sign 3 Players And Waive 4, Including RB Seastrunk - Rob Phillips - Dallas Cowboys
The constant churning of the roster continues as the Cowboys worked out a few more guys and got rid of some current players on the roster including running-back Lache Seastrunk. It just seems like he wasn't ever what the Cowboys were looking for.

Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo gets it done from the pocket, too-Todd Archer - ESPN
Though many folks love to take about some of the dazzling plays we've grown accustomed to, Tony Romo prefers the accuracy part of his game.

"I think if you ever sat down and watched tape you’d find me in the pocket is probably a little bit higher level play than you probably understand," Romo said. "When I say that, I mean that obviously you get credit for making a guy miss and making a play, but that might happen twice in a game. I think the real gift of playing the quarterback position is, for me, getting through five guys in 1.3 seconds."

Romo belongs in the same conversations as Roger and Troy. My first thought about Romo when he came in the league was Moxie. He just knows how to play the game. I didn't fall for the critsisim about him being a gun slinger. I understand football enough to know he was just doing all he could do to overcome weaknesses elsewhere on the team. Besides his Moxie he's got one of the quickest releases in the league, an outstanding pocket presence, he's a student of the game thus always improving and as he points out a rare ability to go through his progressions in 1-2 seconds. And toughness? He's got that in spades not only physically but mentally having to take all the criticism he has over the years by the uninformed or from those with an agenda. When he's the QB he moves the chains. The difference between him and other QB's in how the offense performs is night and day. I put him behind only Brady and a healthy Peyton in current QB ratings and don't base those ratings on stats or what "journalists" or "fans" believe but what my eyes tell me. He's an elite QB and we are lucky to have him.

The following is from an ESPN Dallas blog entry.

The signature plays of Tony Romo's career have been somewhat mesmerizing.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has had an uncanny ability to elude pass-rushers and sidestep blitzers, leaving some of the greats, like J.J. Watt, wondering how they did not come up with a sack.

Romo spun free from Watt last year and delivered a long touchdown pass to Terrance Williams in the overtime win against the Houston Texans.

But those plays are the exception more than the norm.

“I think if you ever sat down and watched tape you’d find me in the pocket is probably a little bit higher level play than you probably understand,” Romo said. “When I say that, I mean that obviously you get credit for making a guy miss and making a play, but that might happen twice in a game.

I think the real gift of playing the quarterback position is, for me, getting through five guys in 1.3 seconds. I feel that doesn’t come across every week. For me, I think that’s probably been more my gift than the ability to make someone miss. The ability to get through that and process information, have spatial awareness all in one second. That will separate you over time.”

As good as the Cowboys’ offensive line is, there will be breakdowns. Tyron Smith missed Watt on that play. But Romo’s ability to process and discard information helps his line at times as well.

“He’s been a good quarterback in the pocket, too,” coach Jason Garrett said.

It’s not always making decisions before the snap. Sometimes it is. In the divisional-round loss to the Green Bay Packers last season, Romo knew he was going to Dez Bryant on the go route on fourth down because the Packers were bringing an all-out pressure.

“More than that, you want to get rid of predetermined what you’re going to do before the snap,” Romo said. “A lot of young guys get in trouble with that all the time, it’s just because they think they see something they’ve already decided, ‘I’m throwing to him, I’m throwing over here.’ That’s what defenses want.”

But Romo’s pocket play doesn’t make highlights. Not that he cares.

“I mean, I don’t mind, hey, give me credit for running around and making plays, sure. Give me credit for staying in the pocket,” Romo said.

“It’s about winning. You’re going to get credit for winning. That’s what it comes down to. In whatever way that is, I don’t need to go pound-fist and say I’m actually like this. It seems silly.

But I think, personally, my gift is the ability -- and if you talk to my coaches, I think they would agree with you -- is the ability to process information at a very fast, quick rate.”
