Early national reactions to the Cowboys win over the Commanders and a 12-4 season record.
NFL Week 17 Grades: Cowboys look like a team with Super Bowl potential - CBSSports.com
Dallas arguably looks like the top team in the NFC, John Breech writes.
December is usually the month where America can count on a Cowboys collapse, but that didn't happen this year. As a matter of fact, the opposite happened: The Cowboys crushed everyone they played.
Dallas held at least a 21-point lead in all four games they played in December and that includes wins over the 10-6 Eagles and the 11-5 Colts. Not only that, but three of the Cowboys four December wins came on the road -- and that's what makes them so dangerous.
Cowboys put exclamation point on thrilling season | USAToday
Tony Romo and the 12-4 NFC East-champion Dallas Cowboys are white hot heading back to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
How far can the Cowboys go? DeMarco Murray: "As far as we want. I think it's up to us."

Who are these Cowboys? - SBNation.com
Eric Stollenberger sees a Cowboys team with an attitude "that has been missing from the franchise since midway through the Bill Parcells era."
It's no coincidence that this team does so well on the road. When the Cowboys play away from home they play mad. They come out swinging and they do things like drop a surprise onside kick in the second quarter. As they did today. They do things like keeping Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray in the game through the fourth quarter, a move that would be described as reckless by most and fire-able by some if either had sustained a serious injury. But they live by the sword and they die by it. They step on teams' throats outside of Arlington.
Picked by many to bring up the rear in the NFC East, they have played incredibly physical football, most visibly in their dominance at the line of scrimmage. The game on Sunday game was no different. The Cowboys' O-line bullied their way to a 6.7 yards per carry average while giving up only one sack.
Tony Romo was untouchable in December. Now the real test begins. | USAToday
In a month that saw the Dallas Cowboys clinch an NFC East championship for the first time in five years, it's been Tony Romo who has been the most impressive, Mike Foss writes.
Following Sunday’s 44-17 drubbing of the Washington Commanders, the Cowboys are 12-4 and Romo has completed the most prolific December of his career. Three wins, 12 touchdowns, one interception, and massive postseason expectations. The Cowboys are different, and so is Romo.
Romo has shown he has the poise. For the first time in a long time, the Cowboys have charisma. Now Dallas is in the postseason, and with a chance to prove they are for real.
Cowboys' offense streaking into the postseason - NFL.com
DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant had a record-setting day for the Dallas Cowboys. The duo torched the Commanders on their way to the playoffs.
Cowboys are proof that firing isn’t always best on Black Monday | USAToday
Jets GM John Idzik, Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Falcons coach Mike Smith, Bears coach Marc Trestman, Bills GM Doug Whaley, Giants coach Tom Coughlin, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley, and Commanders coach Jay Gruden could all get their walking papers today.
Towering over the rubble is Jerry Jones. The Cowboys have been phenomenal in December and finished 8-0 on the road, 12-4 overall. A year ago the football intelligentsia had written off the Cowboys permanently because owner Jones wouldn’t give up the joystick.
An owner’s reflex is to fire the coach. Jones did not do that.
It’s weird to say an owner who has already won three Super Bowls is finally going from ridicule to respect. But his Black Monday is sunny and bright.
Wild Card preview: Welcome back, Dallas Cowboys | FOX Sports
With the field now set for the first round of the NFL playoffs, Alex Marvez offers a primer on the Lions @ Cowboys Lions matchup.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is red-hot as well with 12 touchdowns and just one interception in his past four games. Lions quarterback Matt Stafford returns to his hometown with an 0-16 record in starts against teams that finished the regular season with winning records. Detroit must hope the NFL doesn't rule that defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh intentionally stepped on Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers' leg and suspend him for the Cowboys game as punishment.
Cowboys open as favorites over Lions in wild-card round | ProFootballTalk
The Cowboys (12-4) opened as seven-point favorites over the visiting Lions (11-5). The line speaks volumes about the form of both clubs. Detroit is 4-4 on the road this year and hasn’t won a playoff game since 1992.
Ice Bowl rematch looms, 47 years later | ProFootballTalk
