When Jason Garrett met the press before today's minicamp practice, it wasn't expected to be that much of a news-making event. Turns out it was. One nugget the Cowboys' coach dropped on the press was that running back Darren McFadden injured his elbow in an accident at his home and will miss at least a couple of months. Although he practiced with it last week, he needed surgery and will hand the starting duties for a while over to Ezekiel Elliott.
Darren McFadden had surgery on the injury he suffered to his elbow two weeks ago. Garrett expects him to be out for "a couple months."

In other injury news today, the Cowboys already had issues at defensive end, now they have another. The organization signed defensive end Benson Mayowa away from the Oakland Raiders this offseason in hopes of turning him into a pass rushing presence. Today, Jason Garrett announced that Mayowa needs a knee scope. The team hopes that his situation is not serious and that he will be ready for the start of training camp.

This is just another blow to a defensive line that is struggling to develop continuity and depth. Presumed starters Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence will both miss the first four games of the season because of suspension (unless Lawrence wins his appeal). It was hoped that Mayowa could step in, earn some playing time and justify the Cowboys outlay of contract money for a player who has yet to accomplish much in the NFL. If the scope turns out to be a minor issue and he can return at camp, then he could still accomplish his goal of earning playing time and making his presence known.
Still, with the suspensions and the foot injury to third-round pick Maliek Collins, the Cowboys defensive line continues to be one of the most worrisome parts of the team
