Hopes of a reunion in Dallas come to an end as Ware calls it quits after a 12-year career.

Many Cowboys fans had speculated about the possibility of DeMarcus Ware returning to Dallas this year after he became available as a free agent.

But that's not happening

Ware announced his retirement from the NFL via Twitter today.


Ware retires as the Cowboys' all-time sack leader, and his 138.5 career sacks are the eighth-most in NFL history, more than any other player since he entered the league back in 2005 (according to CBS Sports). NFL Research gives an indication of just how extraordinary a career Ware had:

Ware played in Dallas for nine years before moving to Denver where he finally won a Super Bowl. Many Cowboys fans had hopes that Ware might end up playing the final year in Dallas, and mentoring some of the young defensive line, but Ware has decided to go out on his own terms.

Despite his three years in Denver, Ware retires as a Cowboys great, and it won't be long before he becomes yet another Dallas Cowboy in the Hall of Fame.
