The Dallas Cowboys look to get their head above (or back even?) water today with a win in San Francisco. Beating the 49ers would put Dallas back at .500 on the season, and it would quell a lot of panic that’s built up over the last two weeks.

The 49ers are 0-6 which is exactly what a team like these Dallas Cowboys need. If there was ever an opportunity to get right and reset things with an injection of optimism, San Francisco is that shot.

What’s going to happen in this game? Who’s going to dominate? Who’s going to... not dominate? Let’s predict the contest, as boldly as humanly possible.

Brice Butler leads the Dallas Cowboys in receiving


“DJ Duffle”, as Brice is also known, has quite an affinity for the Bay Area. He spent his collegiate days at USC, he’s a big Golden State Warriors fan, and he was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders.

Brice Butler has been the big-play man for the 2017 Cowboys. In their last game against the Green Bay Packers, Dak Prescott went to Brice on the game’s first third and long, and converted successfully.

Look for Brice to have a big game and have the most receiving yards of any Dallas Cowboy.

A Cowboys defense will actually show up


Scoring 30 points in a game is typically enough to get it done in the NFL, but it hasn’t been for the Dallas Cowboys in each of their last two contests.

The Cowboys defense has been disappointing so far this season, and a good way to stop that trend is to play an anemic offense with a rookie quarterback making his first start.

Did somebody say defense? If you did and it doesn’t show up today, it’s never happening.

The Cowboys put up over 400 offensive yards


It feels like the collective sky has fallen since the last time the Cowboys took the field, but really it’s just been a case of idle hands.

The Dallas Cowboys are a close-knit group. They’re a family. They know how to keep their head down and grind it out through the tough times, and there have been a few instances over the last few weeks that qualify as tough.

In 2016 the Cowboys did something that only the 2007 Patriots and 2013 Broncos had ever done, eight consecutive games with over 400 total offensive yards. That’s the magic number today, and the Cowboys are going to hit it.

Jason Garrett will win both challenges


What’s a catch? What happened to the Jets last week? 10 second runoffs at the end of games? The NFL rules are wild, man.

It’s rare that you see an NFL game that is totally exempt from referee error, and that will likely happen in today’s Cowboys game in San Francisco.

Look for Jason Garrett to have to right what the officials wronged twice today, and I’m so confident in Redball that I’m here to say he’s going to win them both and net that super-exclusive third challenge.

The 2016 Cowboys will walk off the field


To tie a bow on things here, this is a chance for the Cowboys to shake off whatever dust has accumulated on the 2016 season so far in 2017. This is a chance to get back to who this group is.

The game in San Francisco last year was a bit contentious. Dallas entered the game with lots of drama surrounding Dez Bryant’s MRI and Jason Garrett’s handling of it within the media. They originally fell down 14-0, but battled back.

Good teams beat bad teams. Great teams crush bad teams. The 2016 Cowboys were proof of that, and we haven’t seen that form this season. It’s happening today, and we’ll all feel better about it tomorrow morning.
