Last week we asked BTB members for their mock Cowboys drafts in our Mock Draft Challenge. 100+ mock drafts later we look at the results of that challenge.
On Saturday last week we launched our second 2017 BTB Mock Draft Challenge of the year in which we asked BTB members for their mock Cowboys drafts and then asked the community to vote on the mocks. But instead of simply asking for a list of randomly put together names, or copying something from Fanspeak, we limited the flexibility by establishing some specific rules: The mock draft had to be conducted according to the player rankings provided by the Drafttek.com big board, though participants could pick a player ranked up to five spots ahead of each Cowboys pick. Only one trade-down was allowed, but only if the trade value points given up were equal to or greater than the trade value points received.
This significantly limited the options in the mock drafts and forced the mockers to make decisions that they might not have had to make with a less rigorous approach.
103 mocks were submitted in total. 80 of them met our rules and received at least one recommendation by Saturday morning, and I'll be using those 80 mocks as the basis of the analysis below.
Our contestants were stuck with where a given player was ranked by Drafttek, and this skewed the results a little in favor of three injured players ranked fairly low on Drafttek's board: CB Fabian Moreau (ranked 96th), CB Sidney Jones (125th), and TE Jake Butt (103rd) proved too valuable for most participants to ignore, as 67 of the 80 qualifying mocks picked at least one of the three players in their mocks. So much for the idea that investing a pick in an injured player is a "wasted" pick.
Here's the consensus full mock draft that emerged from our exercise, going by the most popular player in each round, with the only modification being that I didn't want two injured players in the mock. The comments for each pick are provided by BTB-members who picked the respective players in their mock drafts.

"Both starting CBs left in free agency, and Dallas has a chance to draft the future CB starters in the same draft that offer noticeable upgrades in athleticism and speed. Moreau’s recent injury should heal in time for the season, or maybe it delays him just a bit in 2017. Regardless, the upside is enormous. They are covered for 2017 at CB after signing Carroll, adding Moreau and with the return of Brown and Scandrick. Moreau has great size at just over 6 ft and 206 lbs with elite speed (4.35 40) and explosion (11’4" Broad Jump), with good flexibility and change of direction as shown in Short Shuttle and 3-cone results. "Simply put, this guy is a freak. 6’3" 220lbs with 33" arms, ran a 4.44 40, 41" vert, 136" broad.. good agility in the shuttle and 3-cone. At his size you simply shouldn’t be this athletic. If he wasn’t so raw or didn’t go to G-State, he’d be picked much higher. This guy immediately coming in and provides help on special teams with the raw athletic ability to become a potential returner while competing for a spot as an outside WR behind Dez and Williams. If he develops, he is your future #2, he has all of the tools but needs refinement." - The Tower
