Last week we asked BTB members for their mock Cowboys drafts in our Mock Draft Challenge. 100+ mock drafts later we look at the results of that challenge.

On Saturday last week we launched our second 2017 BTB Mock Draft Challenge of the year in which we asked BTB members for their mock Cowboys drafts and then asked the community to vote on the mocks. But instead of simply asking for a list of randomly put together names, or copying something from Fanspeak, we limited the flexibility by establishing some specific rules: The mock draft had to be conducted according to the player rankings provided by the Drafttek.com big board, though participants could pick a player ranked up to five spots ahead of each Cowboys pick. Only one trade-down was allowed, but only if the trade value points given up were equal to or greater than the trade value points received.

This significantly limited the options in the mock drafts and forced the mockers to make decisions that they might not have had to make with a less rigorous approach.

103 mocks were submitted in total. 80 of them met our rules and received at least one recommendation by Saturday morning, and I'll be using those 80 mocks as the basis of the analysis below.

Our contestants were stuck with where a given player was ranked by Drafttek, and this skewed the results a little in favor of three injured players ranked fairly low on Drafttek's board: CB Fabian Moreau (ranked 96th), CB Sidney Jones (125th), and TE Jake Butt (103rd) proved too valuable for most participants to ignore, as 67 of the 80 qualifying mocks picked at least one of the three players in their mocks. So much for the idea that investing a pick in an injured player is a "wasted" pick.

Here's the consensus full mock draft that emerged from our exercise, going by the most popular player in each round, with the only modification being that I didn't want two injured players in the mock. The comments for each pick are provided by BTB-members who picked the respective players in their mock drafts.

T.J. Watt, DE,Wisconsin
"SPARQ athletic freak, which is needed to find an elite RDE." - Utmodisette

"A lot of sites have him as a OLB, but @ a solid 6-4, 252 lbs he is as big as Lawrence was coming out so he would fit in at the RDE spot." - CotOTK

Jordan Willis, DE, Kansas State
"Willis has the #1 Sparq score for DE’s with a 140.8 and a 94.4% for the NFL and shows the production ratio to match it at 2.06." - Rena

"His tape is good, his SPARQ is better. After hearing how he was used at Kansas State, I believe he would also flourish in Marinelli’s defense due to the simplification of the position assignments. Too many times he was thinking instead of just reacting, but he has the athleticism and measureables to succeed. He was highly productive as well despite some tape concerns. In the second round, those concerns are mitigated quite a bit." - calmyron

Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA
"Both starting CBs left in free agency, and Dallas has a chance to draft the future CB starters in the same draft that offer noticeable upgrades in athleticism and speed. Moreau’s recent injury should heal in time for the season, or maybe it delays him just a bit in 2017. Regardless, the upside is enormous. They are covered for 2017 at CB after signing Carroll, adding Moreau and with the return of Brown and Scandrick. Moreau has great size at just over 6 ft and 206 lbs with elite speed (4.35 40) and explosion (11’4" Broad Jump), with good flexibility and change of direction as shown in Short Shuttle and 3-cone results. NFL SPARQ % of 98.7." - tturtle

Josh Jones, S, NC State
"Stud safety with CB speed and strong safety size is underrated by Draftek. Check out his game against David Njoku. Opening day starter potential even though I believe in Heath." - GetBetterEveryDay

"6’1", 220 lbs., and a 4.41 40 yd, plus very good bench press, vertical jump, and broad jump show athleticism. Don’t see Dallas drafting a high round safety for a strong safety. But his size and speed could make him a great potential replacement for Church, and could help cover the bigger tight ends." -Tturtle

T.J. Logan, RB, North Carolina
"Lance Dunbar without the health issues." - egriffey

"This guy can flat out run. He has a gear that is unmatched by any other RB in this draft. He would be an excellent choice in replacing what the Cowboys wanted out of Dunbar. At this point in the draft why not take a shot at a guy who brings big play ability whenever he touches the ball?" - SBbound

Robert Davis, WR, Georgia St
"Simply put, this guy is a freak. 6’3" 220lbs with 33" arms, ran a 4.44 40, 41" vert, 136" broad.. good agility in the shuttle and 3-cone. At his size you simply shouldn’t be this athletic. If he wasn’t so raw or didn’t go to G-State, he’d be picked much higher. This guy immediately coming in and provides help on special teams with the raw athletic ability to become a potential returner while competing for a spot as an outside WR behind Dez and Williams. If he develops, he is your future #2, he has all of the tools but needs refinement." - The Tower

"I liked this guy before you, OCC!! This is my pre-draft pet cat! Hands off!" - ScarletO

Javarius Leamon, OT, SC State
"He’s got the size and technique and I think he’ll get the strength when he starts his pro regimen. I don’t actually think he’ll be available this late, but I’ll take it." - MonkeyEpoxy

"Think this pick is solid value at this point in the draft. Addresses a need position and gives Dallas another young lineman to throw in the room with 3 pro bowlers and develop. Has all the tools scouts look for. Needs to get stronger according to his scouting reports." - Heath Jay Rock

The structure of this mock - defense only with the first four picks, offense with the last three - is a common trait of many of the mocks submitted. Here's an overview of all the top players at each pick sorted by the combined number of recs for all the mocks in which the player appeared. 'Rank' indicates the position on the Drafttek big board from March 12, 2017.
