The playoffs start in two weeks, and while the Cowboys didn't make the tournament this season, a couple of former Cowboys are playing for playoff-bound teams this year. In fact, 10 of the 12 teams that currently hold a playoff spot have at least one former Cowboy on their official roster.
While watching the NFL action yesterday, I couldn't help but marvel at how Brandon Weeden won a game for the Texans that put them atop the AFC South standings and within reach of the playoffs. Weeden had a 116.7 passer rating, threw two TDs and ran for another, and completed nine passes of ten yards or more.
So greetings and salutations from Weeden to all!
On a whim, I looked up the rosters of the 12 teams currently on track for the playoffs and scanned their rosters for familiar names. What I found were 20 players that had been with the Cowboys at one time in the past and that might be headed to the playoffs this year.
Here's an overview of which former Cowboys could be headed to the playoffs with their new teams this year:
AFC NFC
Team Player(s) Team Player(s)New England WR Danny Amendola, TE Scott Chandler Carolina CB Teddy Williams, OG Tyrone Green
Cincinnati CB Adam Jones Arizona CB Corey White, OT John Wetzel,
Denver OLB DeMarcus Ware Green Bay - -
Houston QB Brandon Weeden, OT Jeff Adams Washington DE Jason Hatcher, DE Frank Kearse, WR Laron Byrd
Kansas City - - Minnesota CB Terence Newman, S Andrew Sendejo, OG Joe Berger
New York Jets DE Stephen Bowen, K Nick Folk Seattle RB Christine Michael, WR Antwan Goodley
Players denoted in bold are on the 53-man roster
Note that this is just a result of a cursory glance at the team rosters, there may be more former Cowboys on the rosters than are listed in the table above. Obviously not all of these players are on the 53-man roster, though a lot of them are regular starters for their team.
For players like Brandon Weeden, Corey White, or Christine Michael, being cut by the Cowboys this season proved to be a blessing in disguise. While their old teammates are sitting at home in January, they look to be playoff-bound with their new teams.
