News: BTB: Four winners and five losers from the Cowboys loss to the Eagles

The Cowboys couldn’t hang with Philly, let’s see who shined and failed.

Winners


The Dallas first-half defense - The Cowboys were held in this game by an outstanding defensive effort in the first half which got numerous stops, and allowed 0 points after two Dak Prescott interceptions early. They gave the team hope, but the offense could never get enough going to really threaten the Eagles. Granted, they fell apart in the second half, but for a moment they made it a game.

Alfred Morris - He looked pretty good, collecting 91 yards on 17 carries for a 5.4 average per carry. Was most of the Cowboys offense.

Byron Bell (for most of the game) - Hey, after last week anything would have been an improvement at left tackle. But he actually performed decently. Yes, he gave up some pressures, but it wasn’t a jailbreak out there and Prescott had some time to work. Bell was not the problem. But, he did give up a strip-sack for a TD in the fourth quarter, but at least for most of the game he was okay.

Mike Nugent - He did his part. He knocked through three field goals and accounted for the Cowboys points.

Losers


Dak Prescott - The Cowboys young QB had an opportunity in primetime to really help his team out. Unfortunately his accuracy let him down. He threw too many passes that were either way too high, or so low that Dez Bryant had to squat to catch a few short, easy throws. Dak has to perform like he’s elite in these situations, but he didn’t. He also had three interceptions in the game.

Cowboys third quarters - Our own Michael Strawn wrote an article this week about how the the third quarter has been a killer for Dallas this year. How prophetic. The Cowboys came out in the second half and immediately gave up two long touchdown drives, without answering them on offense, effectively ending the game.

Cowboys scoring offense - The Cowboys moved the ball around the field fairly well, but when it came to getting points, it just couldn’t get the job done. Much of that was due to poor throws - without picking up seven, they weren’t going to stay in the game. Things look better because of garbage time stats, but they weren’t effective in putting points on the board for two weeks now.

Cowboys 2017 season - Yes, it is still possible the Cowboys get red-hot, and they get a lot of help from other teams. and make a miracle run for the playoffs. The reality is, though, they are probably going to miss out. They have no room for error, and the offensive production over the past couple of weeks doesn’t signal a red-hot team on the way.

Cowboys luck - When the Cowboys lose players, they really go for it. Arguably the best left tackle in the league, arguably the best running back in the league, one of the best linbebackers in the league, and pretty much the best kicker in the league. The Cowboys don’t mess around when they lose players.
