I think Andy Jones has been the biggest surprise in camp but regardless Swaim has been really solid and has taken advantage of his opportunity with injuries at the position.

I'm happy for him and we can always use another solid TE!!

I think this team is in desperate need for a guy like Swaim, Escobar, or Gaithers who in theory should be able to stretch the middle of the field deep.

Hopefully Swaim steps up and is that guy.

I wanted Anquan Boldin because he could still offer physicality in the run game and do work down the middle of the field.

If we ran 3 wide then the run/pass checks would keep teams honest with a guy who can block and receive playing the slot.

I have not been following camp closely, but the article mentions if Hanna does not return from injury Swaim looks good to be the third tight end. My question is who is second? Escobar? What has he done to hold that spot? Especially after a serious injury. Isn't it time to to move on from Escobar?

If Swaim is one of the biggest surprise in camps, wouldn't it warrant that he could win the backup tight end job? I mean it is not like there are murders row in front of him battling for the backup position.

Some of the reporters believe they will "hide" Swaim by not playing him much during preseason and try to sneak him on the practice squad. They fear Gathers will get plucked by another team if placed on practice squad. They also believe Escobar is trade bait and will get plenty of snaps to showcase.

Just Risen, and only because he looked like a safe target and had a mockable name.

I'm glad to see him developing, too. He can step right up for Escobar. In fact, he might be unseating him here in camp.
In fairness, the beef was trading this year's 6th to get him at the end of last year's 7th. You can argue the probabilities of 6th panning out, but it was value to get him

I don't think anyone would waste a roster spot on Gathers. I hope we don't.

It's hard to get excited over any TE in Dallas based off of a few practices.
Until I see him doing something in a game then it's just reporters needing stuff to report.
I can find positive press reports about Escobar and he disappears once the game starts.
Now Swaim is battling Hanna for a 3rd TE spot...when Hanna doesn't excite and Escobar is invisible I can't get too excited over a guy that is battling for a 3rd TE spot.

That said. It sure beats hearing negative or no reports about Swaim.
Just not ready to say he was worth passing on Thomas Rawls over.

Gathers is not getting picked up by anyone. He clearly needs a year or so on a PS. Any team who sort of likes him will just wait until we've spent resources on him then try to pluck him off our PS late season if the can blow the roster spot

Gonna be hard to keep 6 WR, 4RB, and 4TE. Hopefully we can ditch that FB spot.
I have said this in several threads and I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm wrong. For the, what seems like, very limited number of plays we use a FB I wonder why can't a backup from another position group be used. LB, TE, or even OL. I've seen New England do it. I know some guys are better than others but, I just don't see the unique talent needed to hit the correct guy In the hole.

I'm expecting him to look like a complete sideshow tonight. In a bad way.

He makes so many mistakes just during the training camp live videos. I can't imagine what a preseason game will be like.

They will probably go with 4 TEs when Hanna gets back. I think it's fair to rank the depth as Witten, Hanna, Swaim, Escobar, Traylor, Gathers. Gathers has a lot of upside to be developed but he's at the bottom.
