The 26-year-old defensive end out of South Florida stepped into the role intended for Anthony Spencer, and proved himself as a solid performer among Coach Marinelli's 'rushmen'. Recently he underwent surgery to help him get ready for act two.

Coming into the 2013 season George Selvie had played in 36 NFL games without having ever making a start. As a member of last season's Dallas Cowboys, he was a 16-game starter on Rod Marinelli's decimated defensive line. The 2010 seventh-round selection of the St. Louis Rams had recorded a career total of 30 tackles and three sacks during his time with the Rams, the Carolina Panthers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars; in 2013 alone he added 37 tackles and seven sacks. Needless to say, Selvie came into his own as a member of the Dallas rushmen. The increased action that he saw did come with a price; like every other member of the unit, George Selvie took more than his share of the 'war injuries' that limited his colleagues action during the season. For Selvie, it was a shoulder injury that appeared in mid-season and a lower back problem that developed toward the end of the schedule. Recently he underwent a surgical procedure to clean up the damage that was done, not only during the last season but throughout his football life.

Selvie had an opportunity to discuss his career revival and the off season procedure he is now working to rehab from while speaking with KRLD 105.3 FM "The Fan".

"It’s a long season, especially NFL or college too. You’ve got to go and clean that stuff out or in the long run it’ll bother you. So that’s what I did." - George Selvie

His recovery is coming along steadily, just like his Cowboys career. The procedure, which seems to be the medical equivalent to having preventive maintenance done to your car, was successfully completed shortly after the season ended and Selvie's arm is now out of a sling. He can lift his arm now, but it has not reached the point where he can actually work it, so the defensive end is making the effort to get to Valley Ranch every day and focus on his lower body while the therapists work on getting his upper half back to full functionality. That is the type of effort that has characterized his tenure with the Cowboys.

Essentially out of the game when OTA's began around the league, George Selvie received a call from the Dallas Cowboys after the 2013 training camp had started in Oxnard, California. He quickly made his mark on Marinelli's rushmen. Selvie came in, started at the very bottom of the list and slowly built his way up to the role that he earned thanks to consistent hard work. His effort earned the respect of the Cowboys defensive coaches, including Marinelli who tagged Selvie with his new nickname "Brick Layer" in reference to how the journeyman defensive end came in and went right to work and slowly but consistently built something worthwhile.

Now Selvie is focused on expanding on his work from 2013. During the off-season he has chosen to remain in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area to focus on his rehab process and get ready for the upcoming season. The man who caught a break with the season-ending injury to Anthony Spencer is determined to take full advantage of the opportunity that the Cowboys gave him last summer, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to insure that his current stay in the National Football League is longer and more fruitful that his previous one was.

"I went with the Bucs during the free agency period," Selvie said. "They let me go after two weeks. I didn’t go through OTAs, nothing. I was like, ‘This might be my last chance.’ I had to take my opportunity then. I was like, ‘I’m not going home.’"

Rather than going home, it seems like the man known as the 'Boys "Brick Layer" is slowly building himself a home in the Metroplex, and with his steady determination he will get the job done.
