If you have not made up your mind, BTB is here to highlight some of the better contests of the afternoon and evening.
This is an open thread for game chat.
This week I had to cast the net far and wide to find the most intriguing college football action. Around the country there are some good regional games, but there is not much that is going to impact the national picture. Still there are a few prime nuggets that can be found on the Saturday afternoon slate.
#25 Minnesota @ #23 Nebraska 12:00 PM Easten ESPN
The Big Ten offers two ranked schools who are on different courses. Nebraska needs some help after a meltdown last week against Wisconsin. No matter how this game plays out the Cornhuskers will need some help to get back in the race while the Golden Gophers control their own destiny in the conference's West division. As long as Minnesota can win out (in road games at Nebraska and Wisconsin) they win the division. For both schools there will be a lot riding on the outcome of the game, but for the folks playing at home it is now or never.
#15 Arizona @ #17 Utah 3:30 PM Eastern ESPN
The day's second matchup between ranked teams come to us from the PAC-12. Rich Rodriguez will lead the offensive-minded Wildcats into Utah to face the defensive minded Utes. As the rankings show, the two squads are evenly matched, so expect a tight game. Close ones have been the norm for both schools this season. Arizona has won multiple contests on the last play of the game this season while Utah has more trips to overtime than any FBS team.
#19 USC @ # 9 UCLA 8:00 PM Eastern ABC
Bragging rights will be on the line for these two PAC 12 schools meet. The battle for the City of Angles is a big one; according to Forbes, this is the highest-priced ticket in college football this weekend. You should expect this game to be an offensive showcase. Both schools come into the contest with future NFL passers at the helm. USC has Cody Kessler who throws nearly ten touchdowns for each interception. The Bruins quarterback, Brett Hundley, is leading the nation with a 72% completion percentage. Helping to add to the aerial circus will be the fact that neither school features a defense that can be described as anything better than average.
As much as I hate to say it, this weekend is rather thin for matchups between top-ranked teams. Everyone at the top of the heap should come out of the weekend unscathed since there are a lot of cupcake games on tap: #1 Alabama hosts Western Carolina, #2 Oregon should have little difficulty getting by Colorado, #3 Florida State may have the biggest challenge this week when Boston College comes to town, and #4 Mississippi will welcome the Commodores of Vanderbilt to the Magnolia State. As I said, the pickings are slim for Week 13 of the college season. Still any football beats none at all. Get your fill of the action while you can my friends. The drought will be here before you know it.
