The third-round rookie will be in a court room on Monday and Tuesday when his teammates open up camp.
The Cowboys knew what they were getting in Jourdan Lewis when they drafted him in the third round of this year’s draft (92nd overall). They also knew what they believed, that things would ultimately work out.
During a pre-trial hearing at Ann Arbor’s 15th District Court on Thursday, which Lewis was in attendance for, a settlement was unable to be reached. As a result the case will go to trial, with matters properly beginning next Monday until completion. This means that Lewis will likely miss at least the first two days of training camp.

Lewis’ case is well-known, and the details of what he’s accused of are not for the faint of heart. From SportsDay:
On the morning of March 15, Lewis' girlfriend called 911 and reported domestic assault after a dispute at their shared residence. Lewis was interviewed by police before a report was filed. Later that day, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office filed a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against Lewis, who pleaded not guilty.
According to the report, the incident began when Lewis' girlfriend came home and found Lewis asleep with the lights on, prompting an argument "about the light being left on and who pays the bills" that eventually turned physical. Lewis' girlfriend said that he assaulted her by dragging her across the living room floor and grabbing her neck, holding her against the floor for three seconds. Lewis told police that after entering a closet to get dressed to leave, his girlfriend entered and hit him in the face. He then tried to leave the apartment, but alleged that his girlfriend clung to one of his legs to prevent him from doing so. When asked, Lewis told police that he may have grabbed his girlfriend's throat "while trying to get her off him but had no intentions to hurt [her]."
Two years ago, a dispute and physical altercation between the couple resulted in a 911 call during which Lewis' girlfriend also reported domestic assault. The Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney did not press charges following their investigation of the 2015 incident.
As it is well-known, there was a second complaint filed against Jourdan Lewis by the same woman that did not result in charges.
Jourdan Lewis’ situation is a bridge that everyone knew had to be crossed this July, and unfortunately that bridge has some added length in the form of a trial. Will the NFL investigate this further once the trial is complete, regardless of outcome, like they are doing to a similar degree with Ezekiel Elliott? Only time will tell.
