Here are you starts and sits for week three of fantasy football action.
It’s that time again. Here are your fantasy start and sits for Week 3.
NOTE: This is a list of players who are on the bubble when it comes to deserving a starting spot for the week. Obvious choices won’t be mentioned, and likewise - some under-the-radar guys, will. Advising you to start Tom Brady offers no value to you as a fantasy owner.
Must Starts
Quarterback
Jay Cutler vs. Jets: Cutler is a great start against a defense that has given 400+ yards of total offense in back-to-back weeks. They’ve also got a touchdown rate of 8.9 to opposing quarterbacks, that’s worse than any team in the league.
Matthew Stafford vs. Falcons: Stafford has been really good in the first couple of weeks of the season. Now he gets to face the Falcons in front of his home crowd and Atlanta will be without their top pass rusher. The Falcons defense is improved but they gave up almost 350 passing yards to Aaron Rodgers a week ago.
Running Back
Mike Gillislee vs. Texans- I really I could add all the Patriots backs to this list. They are great options out of the backfield for Tom Brady. Gillislee has been used primarily the way they used LeGarrette Blount so he gets the nod. The Patriots are all about the short passing game in space.
Chris Thompson vs. Raiders- Again, Thompson is outperforming his projections each week and has caught touchdowns. He’s a solid play for this week against a defense that has troubles making plays in space. Thompson will score.
Wide Receiver
Kelvin Benjamin vs. Saints- The connection between Benjamin and Cam Newton hasn’t been there but what better day for it to begin? The Saints are giving up the third-most points to number one receivers. They are one of the worst pass defenses in the league behind the Colts.
Terrelle Pryor vs. Raiders- I know he’s been disappointing to this point but he’s due a breakout game. Against the Raiders, who gave up two scores to one Jets’ receiver, expect this to be a good match-up with tons of offense.
Tight End
Zach Ertz vs. Giants- The Giants have been battered by tight ends for two straight weeks. They gave up 12 points to Jason Witten and Ertz is becoming a huge part of the Eagles offense, he just scored 14.7 points against the Chiefs last week.
Jack Doyle vs. Browns- Doyle has been on a tear as he just put up 15.9 points against the Cardinals. The Browns have given up the most receptions (19) to tight ends in the league.
Defense
Eagles vs. Giants- The Giants are AWFUL on the offensive side of the ball right now. They have averaged 10.2 points per game in their past four games against the Eagles. Eli Manning has two touchdowns, five interceptions, and two fumbles over those four starts against the Eagles.
Dolphins vs. Jets- Anybody that plays the Colts or Jets will walk away a big winner. Start Miami!
Sit Them Down
Quarterback
Eli Manning vs. Eagles- For every reason listed above to start the Eagles defense is good enough reason to sit Eli Manning.
Ben Roethlisberger vs. Bears- Under Vic Fangio, the Bears defense has been playing sneaky good. Other than 88 yards on a broken play, they kept Matt Ryan in check. Also, Roethlisberger hasn’t had a 300-yard performance in eight straight games since last year. The Bears are better at home and I don’t envision Big Ben going off.
Running Back
Mark Ingram vs. Panthers- The Panthers are allowing the second-fewest points to running backs. Ingram hasn’t been performing up to the numbers he put up in the past.
Rob Kelley vs. Raiders- You can move the ball through the air but the Raiders haven’t allowed much on the ground. They are allowing the fourth-fewest points to running backs this season.
Wide Receiver
Jeremy Maclin vs. Jaguars- Jacksonville has a very promising defense and they’re not allowing much in the way of receivers. They didn’t allow a single Titans receiver to finish as a top performer last week.
Adam Thielen vs. Buccaneers- With all the uncertainty surrounding who’s playing quarterback this week, the Vikings receivers should be sat down.
Tight End
Zach Miller vs. Steelers- Though he’s been performing very well, the Steelers defense has held tight ends in check for two straight weeks.
Cameron Brate vs. Vikings- The Bucs will need to find other ways to exploit the Vikings’ defense who only surrendered four touchdowns all of last season to tight ends.
Defense
Commanders vs. Raiders- The Silver and Black have been on a tear and against the Jets and Titans, they combined to score -1 point on defense.
Bills vs. Broncos- Denver are playing like the best team in football and defenses have scored only five points against their offense.
Must Start Dallas Cowboy of the Week:
Jason Witten- He’s leading the league with 17 receptions and has outperformed his projections against top defenses.
Must Sit Dallas Cowboy of the Week:
Dez Bryant- One again, he’s got one of the top cornerbacks in the league. Patrick Peterson is perhaps the best cover cornerback in the league. Bryant has scored in each of his last two games against the Cardinals but he and Dak Prescott seem off.
Fantasy Football Name of the Week: Frankly, Ameer, I Don’t Give A Damn!
