Here are you starts and sits for week five of fantasy football action.
It’s that time again. Here are your fantasy start and sits for Week 4.
NOTE: This is a list of players who are on the bubble when it comes to deserving a starting spot for the week. Obvious choices won’t be mentioned, and likewise - some under-the-radar guys, will. Advising you to start Tom Brady offers no value to you as a fantasy owner.
Must Starts
Quarterback
Deshaun Watson vs. Chiefs
The Chiefs have given up 20+ points to quarterbacks in two of four games. Watson beat down the Titans last week, ride the hot hand.
Eli Manning vs. Chargers
In a week of two winless teams, the Chargers defense has been rather decent but Eli is a good sleeper this week as the Giants remain desperate for the ‘W’.
Running Back
Bilal Powell vs. Browns
He’s carrying the load with Matt Forte shelved, Powell had 20 points in PPR leagues last week. Against the Browns, he should be another solid option to outperform projections.
Jay Ajayi vs. Titans
He’s been disappointing for two weeks straight but so has the entire Dolphins’ offense. I see a big bounce back this week against the Titans who were demolished by Lamar Miller (29.10 PPR points) a week ago.
Wide Receiver
Larry Fitzgerald vs. Eagles
Fitzgerald remains in the starting lineup as he’s put together some solid performances on a struggling team. This Eagles’ secondary is vulnerable (sixth-most points given to WR’s) and Fitzgerald scores touchdowns.
T.Y. Hilton vs. 49ers
He’s been another disappointing receiver but he doesn’t have Andrew Luck passing to him. Hilton will be up against a 49ers defense that has surrendered five touchdown passes to wide receivers. San Fran is getting smoked by the position.
Tight End
Charles Clay vs. Bengals
After four weeks, Clay has been one of the most productive tight ends in fantasy football. In PPR leagues, he’s ranked fourth and should continue to do well against a struggling Bengals defense.
Hunter Henry vs. Giants
Henry is finally starting to come through for owners (including me). No team has allowed more production from tight ends with 77.3 yards per game, five touchdowns, and 21.98 points per game in PPR leagues.
Defense
Lions vs. Panthers
Fantasy owners of this defense have to be tickled with the Lions’ production of at least 12 points per game. They are the best performing defense in fantasy right now.
Eagles vs. Cardinals
The Cowboys got six sacks, the 49ers got six sacks, anybody who is playing the Cardinals will get good defensive production.
Sit Them Down
Quarterback
Russell Wilson vs. Rams
The Rams are allowing a surprising 7.78 points per game to quarterbacks. Wilson hasn’t historically been a road superstar, only getting past 15 points once against the Rams.
Cam Newton vs. Lions
After dominating the Patriots, expect a return to earth where the Lions have allowed less than 12 points per game against quarterbacks.
Running Back
LeGarrette Blount vs. Cardinals
All runners not named Ezekiel Elliott have struggled to put up more than a paltry 8.1 points average against the Cards.
Ameer Abdullah vs. Panthers
The Panthers are allowing the fifth-fewest points to running backs this season. He’s been a risk as of late, better save him for another day.
Wide Receiver
Alshon Jeffery vs. Cardinals
Patrick Peterson has been just as good as ever though the interceptions aren’t there. Jeffery has already been a disappointment failing to get over 12 points in PPR, also the Cardinals only allow 6.8 points per game in standard leagues.
Jeremy Maclin vs. Raiders
After scoring touchdowns and over 13 points in two games, Maclin has really dropped off as of late. The Raiders just held the Broncos receivers to 8.9 points combined.
Tight End
Martellus Bennett vs. Cowboys
He’s on the verge of droppable in most standard leagues and you shouldn’t expect his revenge against Dallas this week. They have allowed 6.28 points to opposing tight ends.
Jack Doyle vs. 49ers
Doyle started hot but hasn’t really done much though he’s on the field for 90% of the offensive snaps. The 49ers held Jimmy Graham in check and don’t expect Doyle to beat the odds.
Defense
Packers vs. Cowboys
Defenses haven’t been able to muster more than five points against Dak Prescott and company.
Seahawks vs. Rams
The difference in points for this defense on the road (six) versus home (28) is staggering. Defenses are getting the fewest points against the Rams.
Must Start Dallas Cowboys For The Week
Dak Prescott- Prescott has missed some throws in games but he scored over 23 points against the Rams. He’s outperformed his projections in three straight games as well. Don’t let Prescott shoulder all the blame for the Cowboys’ slow start.
Must Sit Dallas Cowboy For The Week
Cole Beasley- He had a great performance last year against the Packers, but defenses have learned to double him and Jason Witten. Those two guys are the third-down demons and their absences have hurt the Cowboys’ offenses. Beasley has 21 receiving yards over the past two games.
