News: BTB: NFL Draft Predictions By Cowboys Fans Delivered Surprising Results

We asked Cowboys fans to predict who the Cowboys would draft this year. The results are surprising...

We know that the Cowboys traditionally whittle down the 450 or so draft-eligible players to 130 or so names that adorn their final draft board, and which the war-room cameras have learned to studiously avoid in more recent years.

In the week of the 2017 NFL Draft we posted our annual BTB draft prediction post. The challenge was fairly straightforward: we asked our members to submit a list of up to 30 players, irrespective of round, that they thought the Cowboys would draft or sign as undrafted free agents. Each correct name predicted, be it a draft pick or a subsequent UDFA signing, was awarded one point

We kicked things off with predictions from three of our front page writers, with mixed results:

Michael Sisemore: 2 (Chidobe Awuzie and Xavier Woods)
OCC: 3 (Chidobe Awuzie, Xavier Woods, and UDFA Jahad Thomas)
Danny Phantom: 3 (Taco Charlton, Chidobe Awuzie, and Xavier Woods)

BTB members flocked to the prediction post in droves, and 80 predictions were submitted, of which 73 hit on at least one draft pick/UDFA, a pretty impressive number. But before we go into the individual scores, here are the hit rates for each rookie:

Xavier Woods showed up on 81% of the submissions. We've been running this challenge since 2013, and this is the best result ever achieved by a Cowboys draft pick, better even than Ezekiel Elliott last year. Here's on overview of some of the top hits so far:

2016: Ezekiel Elliott (80%), Dak Prescott (76%)

2015: Byron Jones (80%), Chaz Green (67%)

2014: Zack Martin (64%), DeMarcus Lawrence (60%)

2013: Travis Frederick (51%)

That's a staggering result for Woods, considering he was picked in the sixth round. Next to Woods, the results for the top two picks pale a little, even if Awuzie was on over half the ballots. But Taco Charlton only showed up on a third of the submissions.

Some other interesting details about the picks made:

• The submission of BTB member 94ever consisted entirely of tight ends, and thus was the only one to predict the signing of UDFA TE Blake Jarwin.
• Another UDFA, OT Dan Skipper also showed on just one submission, that of WA_Cowboy.
• Seventh-round pick Noah Brown was submitted once by CorbinClark, who saw Brown as an option in the fourth round.
  
• Marquez White was picked once by Freddie Romero, who might have achieved more than two total points had he submitted more than 22 names.

To the winner the spoils: This year's title as Cowboys Draft Whisperer goes to BTB member boys.camncrew, who got four picks right, Charlton, Awuzie, Woods and UDFA RB Jahad Thomas. 21 participants finished in second place with three correct picks.
