It’s good to be in first place.

As you might expect, the Dallas Cowboys are still in firm control of the NFC when it comes to the playoff race. A team that has won nine games in a row should surely be leading the NFC and at 9-1, the Cowboys are two games up over second place Seattle in the win column.

The current standings in the NFC:

NFC

  1. Dallas Cowboys (9-1, NFC East)
  2. Seattle Seahawks (7-2-1, NFC West)
  3. Detroit Lions (6-4, NFC North)
  4. Atlanta Falcons (6-4, NFC South)
  5. New York Giants (7-3, Wild Card)
  6. Washington (6-3-1, Wild Card)

The NFC East is still sending three teams through to the playoffs. The Cowboys are being chased by the only team that has beat them this season, the New York Giants, for the NFC East title. The Giants are two games back, but already hold the tiebreaker with Dallas pending the outcome of the two team’s upcoming game. If the Giants could beat Dallas, then the pressure would build. But before that happens, the Cowboys have a date on Thanksgiving with their other NFC East contender, Washington. The Cowboys are looking good at 9-1, but there are still six games to go and teams are waiting to pounce should the Cowboys falter.

The Giants are the hottest team chasing the Cowboys with five straight wins. Seattle has also heated up recently by winning three straight games, including a win over the Patriots a couple of weeks ago.

Over in the AFC, the race looks like this, pending the outcome of the Monday night game between the Raiders and the Texans.

AFC

  1. New England Patriots (8-2, AFC East)
  2. Oakland Raiders (7-2, AFC West)
  3. Houston Texans (6-3, AFC South)
  4. Baltimore Ravens (5-5, AFC North)
  5. Kansas City Chiefs (7-3, Wild Card)
  6. Denver Broncos (7-3, Wild Card)
