This week's Power Rankings are not for the faint of heart, as the Cowboys drop like a hot potato.
For many fans, the first song that pops into their head when they see their team accelerating to the bottom of the league table is Tom Petty's "Free falling."
In situations like this, everybody has a song that comes to mind.
What's yours?
This week's power rankings for your delectation.
Opinion-based rankings
Foxsports - No. 21 (-3)
This offseason, the Cowboys need to make a concerted effort to find Tony Romo’s heir apparent. At 35, with multiple upper body injuries, Romo needs a backup with upside. If Johnny Manziel becomes available, don’t be surprised to see the Cowboys have strong interest in him.
CBSSports - No. 22 (-5)
The season is done. It's been a disaster from the start of the season with all the major injuries.
Shutdown Corner - No. 26 (-10)
Seriously, they're two games out of first place. Nobody in the NFC East will ever die.
Newsday - No. 26 (-5)
Tony Romo is done for the season after re-injuring his collarbone, and the Cowboys are probably done. We say probably because they’re still just two games out of first place in this dreadful NFC East. But they haven’t won a game without Romo all season, so it’s probably pie in the sky to see them winning the division.

Add injury to insult for the reeling Cowboys, who will now trot Matt Cassel back out there at quarterback. And if he doesn't work out? Enter Kellen Moore. Unfortunately, Tony Romo is out for the season, leading this space to speculate how much time he has left in his career. Although the Panthers' defense made the man who posted 2014's top passer rating resemble a rookie Thursday, Romo remains one of the top players in Cowboys history, as fans are all too familiar with how this Dallas team looks without its franchise quarterback.
Washington Post - No. 27 (-7)
It is easy to question now whether QB Tony Romo returned too soon from the first time he broke his left clavicle in Week 2. But Romo simply did what football players regularly do, accepting the risk and playing when it was medically feasible to do so. Romo’s season is over now and so, essentially, is the Cowboys’. But with the pressure off, you never know. Fill-in QB Matt Cassel and the rest of the team might play better and actually win a game or two without Romo.
ESPN - No. 29 (-8)
Tony Romo is out again, which leads to this painful reminder for Cowboys fans: Dallas has lost its past nine games that Romo didn't start.
USA Today - No. 30 (-11)
Now that the linchpin of America's Team, Tony Romo, has fallen -- again -- the Cowboys won't be getting up again in 2015.
MLive.com - No. 30 (-9).
With Tony Romo out for the year, we're dropping the Cowboys back to the bottom of our rankings.
Stat-based rankings
FiveThirtyEight - No. 18 (-3). Elo ratings are a simple system that estimates each team’s skill level using only the final scores and locations of each game.
Aikman Efficiency Ratings - No. 24 (-5) This metric combines seven stats into one number: yards per rush, yards per pass play, turnovers per game, first downs per game, third-down percentage, points per game (unit on field) and points per red zone possession.
Sagarin Ratings: No. 24 (-5). These are rankings based on W/L record, points differential and schedule strength.
Oddsshark: No. 24 (-2). Oddsshark use a multitude of stats to establish an offensive and defensive power ranking, which they then adjust for the strength of schedule.
BeatGraphs.com: No. 25 (-3). BeatGraphs provide rankings that cannot be defeated by a chain of A beat B beat C scenarios. In the end, when all ambiguity is removed, if A has beaten B, A will be ranked above B.
Numberfire - No. 26 (-3) These rankings are based on expected point differential against a league average team. If the team's rating is 10, they would be expected to win by 10 points against a league-average opponent.
Coldhardfootballfacts - No. 27 (-4). This indicator ranks teams based on their average ranking across a range of CHFF's Quality Stats.
Teamrankings.com - No. 30 (-4). This site measures the relative strength of all teams using team performance, home/away status, margin of victory and other factors.
