A look at where eight different power rankings rank the Cowboys and the rest of the NFC East
The bye week didn't provide any shortage of headlines for the Cowboys. Not all of them were in the Cowboys' favor, and that's reflected in the power rankings below which see the Cowboys slip a little.
Chicago Tribune - No. 10 (LW: 9)
Looks like they’re going to have to figure things out without running back Ezekiel Elliott for a while.
Sagarin Rating - No. 11 (LW: 12)
These are rankings based on W/L record, points differential and schedule strength.
ESPN - No. 12 (LW: 9)
The Cowboys' upcoming slate of six games features road trips to Washington and Atlanta and home games against the 5-1 Chiefs and 5-1 Eagles. It's not an easy stretch, but it's made even worse by the fact they might have to play it without their leading rusher.

The Cowboys weren’t good with Ezekiel Elliott, their best player last season. Now we have to assume Dallas will be without him for six games. This isn’t the same Cowboys offensive line, and you can’t just plug and play Darren McFadden or Alfred Morris and expect big numbers. This is on Dak Prescott to keep the Cowboys in the playoff race. Big spot for the young quarterback.
Detroit Free Press - No. 16 (LW: 16)
They get a nice warm-up coming off the bye in San Francisco, but as of Tuesday morning, it'll have to be without the suspended Ezekiel Elliott. Can Dak Prescott get this team back on track on his own?

It was an off week for the Cowboys, but apparently no one told the news cycle. The national anthem controversy simply won't go away -- and neither will Ezekiel Elliott's suspension. What's next on the Zeke front? I don't have a law degree. Your guess is as good as mine. If a suspension is in fact inevitable, and considering the Cowboys' subpar 2-3 start to this season, would Dallas perhaps be better off with Elliott sitting now as opposed to losing time in 2018? What a wonky season for this organization.
Washington Post - No. 24 (LW: 24)
The Cowboys return from their bye for a busy week in which RB Ezekiel Elliott’s immediate playing status must be clarified and players must find out whether owner Jerry Jones’s stand-or-else mandate for the national anthem will mesh with what the league figures out at the owners’ meetings Tuesday and Wednesday. Oh yeah, there also is a football game to be played Sunday at San Francisco.
