Here are your starts and sits for Week 9 of NFL action.
It’s that time again. Here are your fantasy start and sits for Week 9.
NOTE: This is a list of players who are on the bubble when it comes to deserving a starting spot for the week. Obvious choices won’t be mentioned, and likewise - some under-the-radar guys, will. Advising you to start Tom Brady offers no value to you as a fantasy owner.
Must Start Players
QUARTERBACK
Philip Rivers, SD vs. Titans
Rivers has a really good shot at a great week against the Titans. The Titans have allowed eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in the last three games. After struggling the last three weeks averaging about 16 points per game, look for a bounce-back performance for River against the Titans who have averaged 25 points per game to opposing quarterbacks.
Eli Manning, NYG vs. Browns
Eli coming off a bye week against the Eagles who have struggled with quarterbacks as of late is a matchup worth considering. The Eagles have given up 20+ points in the past four contests. Eli is averaging about 21 points per game and should be ready for this divisional showdown.
RUNNING BACK
Jay Ajayi, MIA vs. Jets
The Dolphins are coming off a bye week and Ajayi is on a tear as of late. Sure, New York has only given up one 100-yard rusher this season but that doesn't tell the whole story. The Jets, in five weeks, have allowed five different running backs to score double digits on them. Is Ajayi going to have another 200+ yard game? Probably not but he is worth the start.
Charcandrick West, KC vs. Jaguars
With Charles out indefinitely and Spencer Ware dealing with a concussion, West will get the nod against the Jags. Four times is 2015, West took over for the Chiefs and scored double-digit points each of those four contests. In the past two games, Jacksonville has allowed three running backs to score double-digit points. West should be just fine as an RB1 this week.
WIDE RECEIVER
Tyrell Williams, SD vs. Titans
His numbers are skewed by two contests facing the Broncos secondary but those games are out of the way. He's been one of Rivers' top targets and his numbers should increase this week. He's also second on his team with seven red-zone targets. Williams is fifth among receivers in yards after the catch and he can score from anywhere. Look for him to have a shot at a top performance this week.
Donte Moncrief, IND vs. Packers
Moncrief is creeping up as a must-start in every league this week. The Packers have been dreadful against opposing wide receivers and this game should be no different. Green Bay has allowed opposing teams receivers to score on them six times in the past three games. Moncrief is ready to roll against the cheeseheads.
TIGHT END
Kyle Rudolph, MIN vs. Lions
Rudolph is fifth among tight ends in targets and Detroit has allowed the most catches to opposing tight ends this season. The Lions have also allowed eight tight ends to at least finish Top-12 in scoring since the beginning of the season and Rudolph could have a big game.
Dennis Pitta, BAL v.s. Steelers
Pitta is third in targets for a tight end with 54 and the Steelers are not doing a good job of keeping tight ends in check this season. Pittsburgh has allowed the 10th-most points to tight ends over the season.
DEFENSE
Miami Dolphins vs. Jets
The Dolphins haven't been a great play all season long but if there were ever a time to give them a shot or make a desperate call, it's now. The Jets are giving up the most points per game to opposing defenses and if their pass rush can get to Fitzy, it could be a big day for Miami.
Take A Seat, Sucka
QUARTERBACK
Sam Bradford, MIN v.s. Lions
It's time to lose hope that Bradford is ever going to be a fantasy quarterback worth starting. He's thrown for only one touchdown in four of six starts. He's also been sacked 11 times in two games behind an atrocious offensive line and his offense is sputtering.
Tyrod Taylor, BUF vs. Seahawks
He's a sit again this week as he takes on a premier defense. Seattle is a top-five passing defense and the Bills have lost a lot of their targets to injury. If Buffalo is to win this game, it'll be with the help of their running game. This has all the makings of a slow snoozefest this weekend.
RUNNING BACK
Ryan Matthews, PHI v.s. Giants
Matthews is slowly dwindling in touches despite the fact his coaches are calling him the number one option. He's clearly not and hasn't run well when he's had the ball. It's better for Carson Wentz and their short passing game to go with Sproles who showed his ability to contribute at the age of 32. Matthews is close to becoming a waiver wire casualty.
T.J. Yeldon, JAX vs. Chiefs
The Jags have been a real disappointment after they seemed to be primed for a good year in 2016. They haven't been able to have a rusher with more than 50 rushing yards since week four. They're not going to be favored to do so against the Chiefs this week. Jacksonville has only had two rushing touchdowns from running backs all season.
WIDE RECEIVER
Marvin Jones, DET vs. Vikings
The Vikings have a nice passing defense but this sit is more about Jones than it is the Vikings. For four weeks in a row, he's been a fantasy dud and hasn't been a factor. With other receiving options coming into the fold for the Lions, Jones can't be trusted.
Sterling Shepard, NYG vs. Eagles
Shepard started off hot but as the Giants' offense has struggled so has Shepard. In the past four outings, Shepard has only scored a combined nine points and has been held to under 35 receiving yards in each game. The Eagles have only allowed four touchdown receptions to receivers.
TIGHT END
Julius Thomas, JAX vs. Chiefs
Thomas has been a good matchup the past two weeks with scores in each contest. However, this week he'll be matched up with the Pro Bowl Safety Eric Berry. Kansas City has only allowed four touchdowns all season to tight ends and Thomas is about to be bottled up.
Zack Ertz, PHI vs. Giants
Ertz is on an unprecedented campaign of suckitude, do not play him against the Giants. He has zero touchdowns for the Eagles this season and hasn't topped 37 receiving yards since week one. The Giants have allowed the ninth-fewest points to tight ends this season.
DEFENSE
Tennessee Titans v.s. Chargers
The Chargers may look like they give up points to defenses but that's because they played Denver twice already. The Titans haven't done much of anything defensively since their stellar performance against the Dolphins. If they couldn't keep the Jags in check, what makes you think they'll be successful against San Diego?
Must-Start Dallas Cowboy of the Week:
Dak Prescott - He's a must-start this week against the 0-8 Cleveland Browns in just about every league. Cleveland has been bad on defense in almost every category. They are giving up about 30 points per game to opposing offenses and no team has offered up more points to quarterbacks than Cleveland.
Must-Sit Dallas Cowboy of the Week:
Cole Beasley- I don't think there is one certain player that couldn't have a productive day against this defense. However, Dez Bryant could be a big play this week along with Ezekiel Elliott. Jason Witten is a must-start against a team that can't cover tight ends. Beasley may see his production drop but he's still a WR3 or flex in my opinion. I just don't know who you would sit.
