Do you approve of how the Cowboys have approached free agency this year, or are you ready to press the panic button?

Free agency has been trying for many Cowboys fans as they've watched other fans unpack their shiny new free agency presents, while the Cowboys faithful were stuck with what felt like a tie and couple of socks from some distant in-laws.

The lack of big-name signings has led some to question the Cowboys' commitment to winning, while others see the Cowboys' judicious approach to free agent acquisitions and their unwillingness to overspend on a free agents as a sign that the Cowboys are following a successful process.

The Cowboys may not have made the headlines by throwing around crazy money this offseason, but they have quietly spent over $50 million on free agent contracts, even if a lot of that money was spent re-signing their own free agents.

The Cowboy brought in DT Cedric Thornton, DE Benson Mayowa, RB Alfred Morris, and OL Joe Looney. In addition, they re-signed TE James Hanna, LB Rolando McClain, LB, Kyle Wilber, CB Morris Claiborne, RB Lance Dunbar, OT Charles Brown, and CB Josh Thomas, and also tendered OG Ronald Leary and S Jeff Heath.

Just what the Cowboys will do to fix the holes still left on the roster, and perhaps even upgrade those positions, is not very clear yet. The players they have brought in so far don't feel like immediate upgrades, but neither did George Selvie, Jeremy Mincey, Rolando McClain and even Darren McFadden at the time, but all proved valuable additions.

Stephen Jones said in February that the Cowboys were not going to go after big ticket items in free agency.

Don’t expect the Cowboys to be big spenders in free agency. They will most likely be bargain shoppers than spend their money on a couple of big ticket items, per vice president Stephen Jones.
"I’m not a big fan of free agency; I’ll be the first to admit it," Jones told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine. "Unfortunately, good players get paid like they’re great players, average players get paid like they’re good players and it’s a domino effect. It’s not a great way to put your team together."

"I think sometimes there are necessities that you need to jump out and do some things. Hopefully you’re not really needing to have something that you’re paying a good player like he’s a great player. We’ve done it before. It doesn’t mean we won’t do it ever again, but you try not to."

"Obviously you’d like to build your team through the draft and keep your players that hopefully you drafted well and keep those type of players so we’re not out there in free agency."

There's no question that the Cowboys are doing exactly what they said they would, and they have stuck to their plan despite calls from all quarters for big-name free agents. But will that be enough?

The Cowboys probably won't make any of the "Free Agency Winners" lists that are even more ubiquitous than mock drafts at this time of year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Which is why instead of asking you to grade the Cowboys free agency results, we're going to ask you about the Cowboys' approach to free agency in our poll of the day:

Do you approve of how the Cowboys have approached free agency in 2016?
