Who is the most overlooked player on the roster?

    ***SNIP***

    L.P. Ladouceur

LP Ladouceur has been with the Dallas Cowboys for well over a decade. In fact, he is now the longest-tenured player on the silver and blue roster following Jason Witten’s retirement, as former California and CFL long snapper joined Dallas in the 2005 season. Ladoceur has always been important in an area of the game that receives hardly a credit and recognition. Still, though, Les Carpenter of the Guardian called LP “the perfect player”.

    ***SNIP***

    Chris Jones

Chris Jones has been one of the most consistent and most reliable punters for years during his time with America’s Team. Jones always seems to come up in big spots and help the Cowboys win the field position battle — a very important stat in determining the outcome of games.

Fellow special team star, Dan Bailey, generally receives more of the hype, but Jones is among the elite at his position in his own right. Here’s one example of his ability to flip the field and pin opponents deep in their own territory:

    ***SNIP***

    Byron Jones

From special teams to the defensive side of the ball — what about Byron Jones? The 2015 first-rounder hasn’t had a career that is going to make him an All-Pro, but Jones’ ability to make big tackles while also guarding tight ends in the middle of the field has made him a valuable component to the Cowboys.

We recently wrote on three players that have the chance to be a breakout player for the Cowboys on the defensive side. Byron was one of the choices, largely because of his success defending in the slot.

    ***SNIP***

    La’el Collins

For all of the hype that the Great Wall of Dallas gets, La’el Collins probably gets the least amount of recognition. Think about it: Tyron Smith is the best left tackle in the league, Zack Martin is the best guard in the league, and Travis Frederick is the best center in the league. Even rookie left guard Connor Williams is getting a lot of attention.

That said, Collins is a pretty solid starting offensive lineman in the NFL. A former projected first-round selection originally began his career with the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive guard; however, an injury three games into his debut season forced Ronald Leary into his spot. Leary obviously departed in the following offseason, but the staff moved Collins to right tackle.

    Crawford

The guy shows up game after game. He's always in the mix for most tackles, pressures, etc. I don't know if underrated is strong enough. The guy gets some flat out hatred.

More like how many players do we over rate? :muttley:
    J / K

But fans do tend to over rate their own players, for all teams. And especially the drafted players.

Either Byron or Crawford before the Twill accident.
Since his accident, Twill has to be the most underrated as far as on field play.

It has to be L.P. Punters get their coffin corners and kickers split the uprights from 50 yards out, but without the perfect snap the chances for success dwindle. it's something we take for granted, much like flipping the switch and expecting the light to come on.

he was over contracted. Everyone would be happier if he was paid his level, average. Hes not going to light anything up, hes nothing to be feared, hes good and average. Hes just paid way to much for that.

He also plays three positions at a solid level, Is a team leader, plays great against the run, and is always among the league leaders in pressures. The one real problem is that he struggles to finish in the one department that casual fans pay attention to.

I would argue Peters was having a much better season than Smith until Peters got hurt.

Yeah, probably Collins. His arrow is only up too.

Romo used to have this distinction. For too many years. Great player stuck in a bad situation.

On defense it could be Maliek Collins. I don't know. He's been here two years. One playing at his position and one playing out of position. He was a good looking rookie and an invisible 2nd year player. Is he just not that good or is he a really good 3 tech we are now wasting at the 1 because Rod Marinelli is senile?
