David Irving has finally exhausted the Cowboys patience.

It was almost a year ago that the Dallas Cowboys gave defensive tackle David Irving a second-round tender. The hope was that Irving, who had a troubled past, could get it together and help the team make a run. That, unfortunately, never really happened.

Irving appeared in only two games for Dallas in 2018. He dealt with off of the field issues and saw his name pop up in headlines for the wrong reasons too many times. Irving is once again in the news, because the Cowboys have decided, for the moment, that they are moving on. According to the Dallas Morning News the Cowboys “have no intention of” keeping him.

It’s unfortunate that things never materialized for Irving with the Cowboys. He had the potential to be one of Will McClay’s greatest finds as his athleticism cannot be denied. The little that we did get to see of David Irving, 37 career games, always held with it the potential to be something special.

Irving is hardly the only Cowboys player who the team seems content with from moving on this offseason. Monday also saw news that the club will not be picking up the option on Terrance Williams’ contract, making him a soon-to-be free agent. Whatever David Irving is doing these days, hopefully it brings him happiness and peace. He’s apparently doing some film work.

Times sure are changing.
