Finalizing the Cowboys coaching staff.
Under previous leadership, the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff had a handful of people who played for the team before ultimately serving on the staff. Mike McCarthy is the new man in town with the Cowboys, and considering he was the longtime coach of the Green Bay Packers, there were some strong odds that some names he was familiar with would follow him.
This has been the case with coaches like Mike Nolan and Joe Philbin, and it’s even sort of the case with former Packers personnel man Rob Davis. On top of all of that, we are seeing McCarthy fill his staff with players he coached in Green Bay as evidenced by Al Harris working with the defensive backs.
Harris is not the only former Packer that is now coaching for Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys. It was announced on Monday that former Packers quarterback Scott Tolzien has joined the group as a coaching assistant.

Tolzien played his college football at Wisconsin before the Packers. After his time with the Packers ended he had two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before giving the Alliance of American Football’s Birmingham Iron a brief shot last year.
The term “coaching assistant” is very vague and it seems like Tolzien is simply someone who Mike McCarthy wants around. He’s the head coach so he should be able to make those decisions. The fact that he’s being allowed to is seemingly good news.
